Delay wiper module interchange

Anybody know if the 83-87(91) delay wiper module will work with a 77-82 dash mounted delay wiper switch?

I have an auto trans delay wiper column assembly and wiper motor from an 86 for use in my 78.

I really want delay wipers but don't want to do the column swap until I can do the auto trans and pedal change job at the same time.

If the newer delay box does not work with the older switch any idea of possible donor vehicles that would use the same delay module for the older delay switch? I assume it is pretty universal within GM but you never know.

Re: Delay wiper module interchange

No It won't work. You have to have a module FOR a dash switch and the non delay switch won't work with the module.

You need this

The Switch

Delay Module
http://www.classicparts.com/1978-83-...ctinfo/67-682/

They're expensive, but they are NOS GM.

Re: Delay wiper module interchange

Thanks for the help and links.

I knew I needed the dash mounted delay switch but didn't know how or if the delay module changed.

Will that combo work with a '77, as far as the under dash wiring harness connectors? I'm assuming that there is nothing *special* about the '78 and up motors.

I read something on here the other day that said the 77 switch was different. Not sure if the plug on the back and the wiring is the same though.

Re: Delay wiper module interchange

If you have that switch and delay box, it will just plug and play on 78-83? Really?

Yes, it just plugs into the existing wiper switch wiring and uses the same non-delay wiper motor.

Re: Delay wiper module interchange

I thought that might be the case, looking at the wiring diagram. Something else to look for at the pick a part.

Keep your eye out for other GM's from the 70's to 82 that have delay and see if the module will plug into the truck delay wiper switch.

Broadening the gene pool for donors would be great. I'm betting the land yachts are a good candidate and most were probably equipped with delay wipers. Who knows, maybe one of the other switches will be close enough to work too.

It would be a great resource for everybody here with a 73 to 82.

Re: Delay wiper module interchange

How hard would it be to change my 86 to wiper delay? Is it plug and play also? Didn't mean to hijack this thread but since were on subject.

Excellent info. I saw the switch and made a note to buy one on my next order. I didn't know I needed the module as well. Thanks.

None of this will work with 77 in general. I have assemblies that are know to be from 77 trucks, and they are not exactly the same. This was very much a transitional year for these trucks. There are many things that ended in 77, started in 77, and others such as the yellow insert trim 77 specific.
