Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
Guy's in know this is probably a stupid question, but I need to ask it.
Can a wheel be drilled to accomodate both a stock 5-lug ('71-72) setup as well as a 6-lug setup (67-70)? I'm not referring to a spoke wheel design, but more of a custom drilled application. I wasn't sure if they would "cross" bolt patterns. While we're at it, what are the bolt patterns for the 5-lug and 6-lug? IIRC, the 5-lug is 5 on 5, but I couldn't recall the 6-lug measurements. Thanks in advance!

From what I remember on my re-drilled axles & hubs, the machinist indicated you couldn't do a dual pattern set-up because some of the holes would interfere. I've never measured personally so it might be worth investigating (I've been told info before only to find it wasn't 100% correct).

Re: Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
Scoti, thanks for the information. I kind of assumed the bolt patterns would cross. I will do some investigating to see if this is true.
Anyone have any experience with these measurements?

Re: Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
I swear a buddy of mine said he talked to someone at Moser and they said it could be done, I'll ask him again.

Re: Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
Nate,
I know I've seen 5 on 5 to 6 on 5.5 billet spacers. Let me verify though......

Re: Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
Nate,... they will interfere with each other.
I stacked my 5-lug and 6-lug backspace tools on top of each other,... and there is always two of the 6-lug holes that interfere with the 5-lug holes.

Re: Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
You know how I feel about 6-lug vs 5-lug on the 67-72 trucks.
Just switch to 5-lug. Then you have a ton of wheel choices!

Re: Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
I would think you would have just as many wheel choices 6 vs 5....all the newer trucks have the same 6 lug pattern that your truck does! By the way what wheels were you wanting to redrill?

Re: Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
That's good to know, I asked my buddy about it and he verified the guy at Moser said it would work. That's kinda scary, you would think someone working there would know something like that!

Re: Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
Chris,... I wonder if the guy from Mosers is thinking about "welding up" the 6-lug pattern and changing to 5-lug? (or vice versa)

Yeah, we were wondering (hoping) he just didn't understand exactly what my buddy was asking.

Re: Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
Nate,..
Here's my 6-lug backspace tool stacked on top of my 5-lug backspace tool. I have marked the tool lug holes that intersect each other. No matter how I position the two patterns,... they cross each other somewhere on the pattern. EDIT: My 5-lug tool has 2 different patterns on it. (5x5 and 5x4.750) This picture shows the 6-lug pattern interfering with one hole on each of the 5-lug patterns. Anyway I try to combine the two,... I can't make it work.

Re: Bolt Pattern Question(s) (5 vs. 6)
While this correct in that the 6 lug pattern is the same, it still doesn't give you a big selection of wheels that will fit. Most of the wheels designed to fit the new trucks will have incorrect backspace to fit early 6 lug trucks.

And the cener bore of the wheel is too small.
