Gas Cap vs Fuel Door

Hello,

I am looking at getting a 73' to '79 shortbed. My question is what year did they go to fuel doors vs exposed gas caps. I have seen a '73 with a fuel door and then a '78 with the exposed gas caps (duel tank). Want to make sure the beds have not been replaced and some people may not even know the difference when selling a truck that has had several owners. Appreciate the info.

Re: Gas Cap vs Fuel Door

I think '79 was the first year of the fuel door.

Re: Gas Cap vs Fuel Door

I think 79 was the first full year for the doors, 78 having both caps and doors.

Bruiser,

Thanks. Not sure how the '73 has the fuel door. They say its original.
