I found this tool on ebay, Imperial Eastman Flaring tool, anybody ever used on of these? I Bought a cheapy flare tool and it broke within 45 min. so I'm looking for a little more quality this time, but still wanting to save some money.

still has the same **** metal wing nuts that break off.

what failed on yours?

i have the napa autoparts version and swaped the wing nuts out for regular hex nuts and havent had a problem.

the pin on the die that goes inside the line broke off, and the rest didn't seem to come together real good, rough cut and cheap metal.

looks like the typical cheapo potmetal stuff// buybuying and paying for 2or three cheapo china tool sets costs a lot more than if you just go into a local tool place and spend the money for a quality piece of equipment that will last a lifetime

the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetnees of low price is forgotten

I've been using an SK double flare tool I bought at NAPA.......and believe me, I haven't been nice to it. granted it was pricey, but well worth it. (I have broken 2 cheapies in the past).

Sorry man, I guess you got your answer in a round about way. A complete set for $12 does sound like low quality considering a Snap On costs over $100.

I would find something somewhere around the middle or slightly higher.

I bought one of these sets in the sixties. Haven't broke it yet. I cant speak for modern production, but mine has been good fot 40 plus years. Mine is made in the good old USA not china.

I looked up the set brand new and it was $66, so the the $12 might be kinda deceiving, and actually as of now I'm thinking about just doing the autozone loan-a-tool.

the sad part is, have you ever actually tried to buy a nice one? you cant. they are all peices of ****, some are $100 turds with warrenties and some are $20 turds that you dont worry about flushing because it was only $20.

mine is the napa brand also, i must have spent 2 days hunting them down at all the stores. i put the nuts on instead of the wing nuts because i couldnt get the thing tight enough to grip the tubing.

honestly i haven't looked at buying a flairing tool in probally 40years ever since i bought this one i have no need to buy another

^^ I am a fan of heavy duty tools. wow! that is a GREAT flaring tool! who is it produced by?

back to the original question, Imperial tools are good stuff. they produce the tubing cutter I have and it's very good quality. $12 bucks is a veeeeeery good price. I'd pick it up!

I tried the loan a tool deal at all the local parts stores (autozone, o'reilly's, advance) and they were all crap. so I went ahead and bought one from snap-on for $50 ands it worked great so far.

I'm holding out for a hydraulic one made by Mastercool. I will have to either win the lottery or be a good boy for a whole year (like that'll happen). it is possibly the best flaring tool I have ever used. (old boss had one) I think they are about $300.
