park brake cable dust boots - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Does anyone know if these dust boots are available without buying the whole new cable assembly. I am talking of the hard cable from the backing plate. They are about 3' long. Not the dust boot, the park brake cable. At the end the flex cable protrudes and this is where the dust boot goes. Thanks.

when i did my brakes i got those boots at a local autoparts store carquest i think, they weren't an exact match for the originals but they worked just fine

cdowns, do you remember the part # or what you specified? I have checked at my local Car Quest (they have become friends for all the stuff I have bought over the years) but they couldn't come up with anything. Thanks

Ran into the same problem when redoing the brake system on the BURB..I was unable to find any "stock" type dust boots, so I made two out of vacuum block-off plugs. Finding the correct size plug that would fit snugly over then end of the flex cable housing, I put a small hole in the bottom of the vacuum plug and slipped it over the end of the cable "stop" and slid it up to the end of the flex cable....it snapped into place and although it may be not be exactly stock, it works like a champ!....hope this helps.
