new 305
ok i hada drop my pan today (i broke a dipstick in the block) and cone to my amazement i look in the cylinders and you can still see the cylinder cross hatch marks,what ever they call it
 the pattern of marks when they are rebuilt.looks very clean in there.no sludge

i wish i could say that about my 350, 245k and it runs strong but man i had to pull the valve covers off to poke the holes threw so the oil could drain back from the heads to the pan. On top of that it was actually stinky like the motor smelled like crap on the inside from the sludge. Nastiest motor ive ever owned but it runs so good haha

look again further up the cylinder, bet the hatching is gone.
my 1970 virgin 396 still has the cross hatching on the bottm 2" ish but is a mirror finish then rest of the way up. |

when i got my motor built around this time last year this is tha same thing that happened 2 me. except i bought my motor at a junkyrd for $100 bucks LOL but when we broke it down 2 tha bear block u could c all tha honing marks still on tha inside and when we dropped tha oil pan there was no sludge or anything and tha oil inside of it was still golden in color!!!! ha ha got luckey i guess
