at what point are drop spindles pointless?
I have a 68 burb and am getting my stuff together to bag it. My question is with bags, and either a cut down bag cup or a cupped LCA are drop spindles pointless? I dont think I want to remove my inner fenders or lay frame and rocker... just not that low on this project. So if I do the bag cup, or LCA mod are spindles pointless? Am I going to hit the ground with my lca first? Tell me what you guys think. I plan on running a 30 or 31 inch wheel and tire combo.
Also any pic that someone might have would be great.

With a tire that tall I'd say they will never be pointless.

Re: at what point are drop spindles pointless?
I have Cupped lca on my truck with bags and had to ditch my inner fender wells already so drop spindles will put me into the hood hindge and a slew of other mods....x member is 1.5" off the ground...oh 29 1/2" tire on my truck if you look at my build you will see the cupped lowers

Re: at what point are drop spindles pointless?
Just reread your post I had missed the part about keeping your inner fenders. In that case, drop spindles probably won't get you anywhere. However, they are the easiest 3" lower to the ground you are going to get when bagging your truck.

Re: at what point are drop spindles pointless?
How much did you cup the lower control arms to make them do that? Seems like the cups would drag on the ground but I've never seen it in person.

Re: at what point are drop spindles pointless?
I guess part of my issue is that it is a burb. I don't want all the rear susp all in the cargo area. If I lay it compleatly out up front then I have to do a bunch out back and come into the cargo area a lot.

Re: at what point are drop spindles pointless?
Here's my opinion on Drop-Spindles:
They are the best "first step" when it comes to lowering the front suspension on any vehicle. It will drop the truck while having minimal effect on the front suspension geometry. I say buy the spindles and don't cut the cups down.

Re: at what point are drop spindles pointless?
I think drop spindles are more for "ride height" in your situation.
Like what everyone else said. Cheapest 2.5" or 3" drop you can get. Remember,... you have to "air up" high enough to regain your front end alignment. Do you want it to look like a 4x4 when you are driving down the road? I still like them to look lowered while driving,... not stock. Get the spindles. Worth the money. Also,... any reason you have such a tall tire up front? (just seems tall to me) Personal preference. |

Re: at what point are drop spindles pointless?
When lowering you get to a certain point where you start having camber problems, that is why I added drop spindles to my truck
Like said you dont have to lay out any further with drop spindles if you dont want to, just put a bump stop in to keep it from going lower than you want it to It will also help with BJ angles |

Spindles are always my first step. The only time I have not used them so far is when they didn't fit in a wheel, and it still bugs me. I've even built spindles for vehicles that no one made a drop spindle for, so as Nate says, it's always the first and probably the most important step.

No, really....I see them as the first step in lowering. They have the least effect on everything else in the suspension.
