1970 Blazer rear carpet hold down strip - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

This is out of mine, completely stock and factory. It is not like all I have seen but I have come to expect this in these earlier runs of the Blazer. I am trying to replace this rubber weatherstrip the is glued to this metal strip. I have included the pics. I just need a flat piece of weatherstrip rubber that is 2 inches or so wide that I can glue down as you see it. Any of you have a source for weatherstrip sort of close to this that you have used in similar or different applications? It would be great if I could find this exact part but since I have only seen this one, chances are slim...

I have one that looks exactly like that, rubber in the same condition as well.

No idea for a replacement source right off but maybe wondering around one of those huge hardware stores could produce something close, at least close enough so that it could be cut down and used.

garage door rubber will give you a flat piece with a bend that might work

You can go to a place that sells truck caps they will have alot of different width but it sticks on one side and I dont think it is rubber.

Pound41 is a genious! I went and found some of this stuff from a hardware store in town and found a garage door seal that is nailed to the bottom of the door. It looked to be a perfect shape for the application we need. So I brought it home and the strip worked better than I imagined. I have included pics of the installed part, bag it came in then you will see pics of the bed after fatmat installation. It worked great!

tHATS A SLICK IDEA ON THE BOTTOM SEAL AS THE REPLACEMENTS SUCK..

Great Pics! Cool idea.

My Jimmy is a 72 with Cheyane package... I dont recall Any seal on the bottom of the tailgate... the strip was there though... yep, it was a different strip than yours.

That looks much more effective than the factory rubber strip on our 72 blazer. Ours is one piece that also runs along the side rails on both sides. Ours actually fits into a slot that is made into the stainless trim,,,not glued in like yours.
Problem is though, ours only sticks out about 1/4 inch at the most and really doesn't crush that well against the tailgate when it's closed. I've always said that section of weatherstrip needs to be thicker for a better seal.
And yours looks to be doing that. Great info.
