New guages, what do you think??
So I have had to ride around with my laptop on the seat for the last 3-4 years (truck was down for almost 2 though).. I have had all the parts to do this for a little while.
Atom based single board computer 32gig SSD flash based drive (x-customers of mine have tested them to over 20 g's of shock) 8" TFT touch screen Because of the SSD drive, this thing boots a full blown version of XP in under 15 seconds.

Re: New guages, what do you think??
HP tuners will record anything and everything you set it up to record for as long as you want assuming you have the memory to do so. I have an 18 minute log that I just looked at, it's only 320k, so long road trips are easily logable. The nice thing is I can have "street gauges" and "strip Gauges" because there is some info you might want for both..
Being able to tune on the fly is nice as well. There is "real time tuning" in HP tuners.. That will be nice for flat section of road that I can keep a constant speed and try getting a little more mileage out of it. For what it is, it's not horibble right now, at 65mph with 4.56's 30" tire in OD with the verter locked it's at 2,450rpm and getting 13mpg..

Love your truck, and all that technology in a race truck. Now if you could just replace the original gauge cluster with a purpose built mounting panel for all the technology, to where it looks like the control console on board the Nebuchadnezzar hovercraft in the Matrix films, it would look menacing instead of cluttered.

I didn't understand a single thing you said in your post #1
But, cool truck. I don't know how I missed it, but I think that's the first I've seen it. Looks awesome in the video, seeing one of our trucks pull the front wheels. LS1/4L80E is kind of my dream for my 64 one day. The main thing holding me back is the wiring.

Re: New guages, what do you think??
I was just discussing with my buddy Mike who is my right hand man on this truck what to do about certain cluttered things.. The truck is most likely going to go under a rewire and things will get moves around. We were originally going to set the display in the gauge cluster, but the touch screen might be rendered useless due to how far back it would sit.
We do plan on revamping the interior very soon.. Also plan on putting a 4 channel amp in it with a set of 6.5" MB Quartz and a 10" sub.. I don't really consider it a "race truck" more of a very fast street truck that gets raced at the track Our goal is to get everything in it and working, then comeback and clean it all up. Reason for sort of doing it twice, is i have learned with all this stuff going on in the truck, it never works out 100% the first time.

Re: New guages, what do you think??
Bowties, thanks for the compliments.. But it really isn't that hard to wire assuming you are using a factory PCM and harness. Ignition, Fuel pump, (2) +12's for the computer, obd2 port, fan and removing vat's are about all you really need.

Understand the doing it more than once concept very well. After owning mine for most of two decades the truck has changed as I have with lot's of modifications I couldn't have predicted the first time around. After all the years and adjustments the only disappointment I have, is that I didn't put the main fuse panel behind the glovebox for easier access now that I'm old and busted. |

Isn't that thing illegal on the street.I know here in Texas LCD screens are illegal to have within line of sight or in vision of the operator.

You could arguee a GPS poses an issue as well. Plus, while it's running, it's soley used for gauges. i guess if the cop really wanted to harass me he could..

Re: New guages, what do you think??
Don't get me wrong it looks badass. And seems to be functional. What kind of devise do you use to take inputs from engine vitals so as to translate to visuals?Nevermind didn't completely read previous post where you state how.

Re: New guages, what do you think??
Man that has a lot of potential if you could somehow get a 16x 9 type screen to fit in place of the Dash cluster that would be cool and if you added a wifi connection to that pc you could even get maps to help navigate the world when going to pick up parts or that next project.
What a great idea I really like it |
