Re: need manual steering box

when I get home from work, I will check, but I'm almost positive I have no slop at all, otherwise, it wouldn't be on my truck. I'm pretty anal!

Re: need manual steering box

I have a 4WD, Do you need the drag link on it? Mine was from a 68 so it was on a flat frame...

4WD goes front to back and 2WD goes side to side...

Re: need manual steering box

i'm pretty sure it's tight, how's $20 + shipping?

not to kill a sale but have you thought about powersteering? what year is your truck? I want to make sure it will bolt up to your frame. Send a pic of yours and we can compare.

Re: need manual steering box

I don't, I found that it takes awhile to build the parts list unless you shell out $$$ for everything at once.

I'll snap a pic and post it tonight. Is your frame area behind the box flat or dimpled?

Re: need manual steering box

Don't know if it's relevant but here is my 2 cents on these boxes. Most boxes mount to the inside of the frame. It is only the couple of years in the '67 - '72 range of pickups that these mount to the ouside of the frame. The 2 wheel drive models retain the pitman arm in the conventional spline and nut manner. The 4 wheel drive models, pitman arm is split and mounts to the steering shaft by clamping to it, much like a rag joint, where the bolt goes through a dimple in the shaft. Also, the 4 wheel drive arm is quite massive and has a 'dog-leg' bend, I believe, at the tapered hole end. When I was looking for mine, I found this ifo very interesting. Buy the way, I have one of each available If I convert mine back to a manual box.

Re: need manual steering box

All pickups, Suburbans and Blazers, both 2wd and 4wd from 1960 thru 1987 have the steering boxes mounted on the outside of the frame. In 1988 GM switched them to the inside of the frame since the frames are wider.

The 2wd and 4wd power boxes are identicle in appearance but the sector shafts are different between the two as well as the pitman arms differ. The 2wd sector shaft has 4 keyed positions, whereas the 4wd has only one, plus the notch for the pitman arm clamping bolt. So even though a 4wd box will bolt up in place of a 2wd box, the pitman arms won't interchange
