New Years Eve Blazer Work, racking up the options, Knobs etc...
I had time yesterday to work on the Blazer and did a few things. First, I remember a thread on someone selling NOS knobs for $100.00. My knobs are original but looked old after being used for 37 years so I started thinking Why not "re-paint mine"? I was torn do I leave the knobs the same or try it? I decided to give it a try, I can paint and still have a steady hand. I also added my factory aux battery tray, looks nice and came out great. Finally I like my stock chrome hubcaps, but I don't like the 15x6 rims. I tried my hubcaps on a set of 15x8 Rally's I have and they fit perfect. The next thing is to have them switched out. Factory chrome hubcaps and 15x8 wheels... NICE. Happy New Year to all and may 2010 be a better year than 2009! Enjoy the pics... of course I had to "test" the battery tray out and make sure it did not fall out and take the Blazer for a nice ride

Wow, looks great. You freehand painted the knobs? What's holding the hub caps on the wheels?

Re: New Years Eve Blazer Work, racking up the options, Knobs etc...
Thanks Bouncy, yes freehand... I cleaned the recessed numbers with an ice pick and then I painted the numbers with a toothpick using acrylic enamel ceramics paint. I think/hope it will hold, I considered shooting clearcoat on it but I think with the oil on our hands it would not last as long. The original hubcaps fit nice and tight on the truck rally 15x8 wheels.

Looks great! Your interior is definitely a work of art. I'm sure glad you have a steady hand, I will have to remember that as I start putting things back together. Nothing like a topless drive through Boerne!

Did you do anything to polish the shifter knob before you painted it? It looks really shinny in the pre-install pic.

Re: New Years Eve Blazer Work, racking up the options, Knobs etc...
Wow, shift knobs look really good. Been waiting to do mine. I have minor imperfections on mine that I thought I would sand down and shoot with black, repaint the numbers etc and then final shoot with clear. Your work gives me hope mine will come out OK.
Does anyone know what the shift knobs are made out of? Are they some kind of plastic? Any other ideas on refurbishment is appreciated. I haven't seen this topic come up before unless it's on an other tread somewhere.

Re: New Years Eve Blazer Work, racking up the options, Knobs etc...
Bouncy... soap and water and a lot of rubbing. 71jimmy, I did consider sanding, painting, and clear coating but I did not want to take away the "original" look. I think they are made of 'hard plastic', 'resin plastic mold' etc... I realize that by painting them i take away the original look, but I got tired of looking at the 37 year old gunk in the numbers so painting them worked for me. My original 4wd knob had white paint but it was an 'aged' white. I've added many options to my Blazer and I am thinking about adding tow hooks but find it hard to justify spending $300-$500. I might need to go 4 wheelin more

Re: New Years Eve Blazer Work, racking up the options, Knobs etc...
Really not trying to attack anyone, but someone on the board was selling them for $100.00 each. I have seen nice ones on eBay go for $50+. Heck for $20 CAD = $19USD, I would have picked up 5

I believe the GM part number for the NP205 knob for our trucks is 3991947, but it is no longer available.

Looks good.
Looking at the picture that has all three pedals has me thinking about something. Why is the clutch pedal so high up? Where they that much higher from the factory?

Re: New Years Eve Blazer Work, racking up the options, Knobs etc...
69ss... My clutch pedal is a bit higher and it is slightly to the left. I have considered replacing the pedals but the clutch works perfect. It looks like the clutch pedal hangs to the left, either the spring is a bit weak or the bracket is the issue. It does work fine, but I keep monitoring it. 69-72, send us the part number for the 4 speed knob, many of us would like to purchase extras for $19.
