Re: gas tank question...

Well. I hope no one minds me plugging American Truck the new magazine I'm editing that will be on sale 1/26/10, but I did a tech story on how to install LMC Truck's C10 rear gas tank kit that sells for under $200.00 on my '68 GMC.

If anyone wants to know more, I'll check back and answer any questions.

Thank you,

John G.

Re: gas tank question...

American Truck will be on the newsstand 1/26/10 at the following chain stores, and a bunch of mom and pop types stores. Here's the top 15

1) CVS

2) Wal-mart

3) Walgreens

4) Safeway

5) Kroger

6) Rite-Aid

7) Barnes & Noble

8) Loblaws

9) 7-eleven

10) Shoppers Drug

11) Books-a-million

12) Giant Eagle

13) Target

14) Raleys

15) Food Lion

The first issue is pure Chevy and GMC from '47-98 only with 8 tech stories and 4 truck features. No ski boats, bulldozers, or Porsche SUV's, just General Motors pickups.

Thanks for asking

Re: gas tank question...

Yeah, this was a commercial break, and frankly I really hate how over-commercialized things in this world have become — but, if I don't get the word out and this magazine flops on the first issue, there's no plans for a second one.

I'm hoping at least on the 26th of this month you guys will take a look at it on the newsstand (Did I mention the top 15 stores where you can find it?) and like what you see.

Thank you,

Well um..... Still looking for a tank. What about a tank off a blazer? Or should I just spend the extra money and get the new tank?

New or used, that's always the question. A new silver powdercoated tank with stainless steel straps from LMC Truck is going to run you around $200.00. If you can find a used tank that's real cherry for around twenty-bucks, that's what I'd do. Of course if the $20.00 used gas tank ends up needing to be boiled-out because it guts are rusty that will add some money. Then if it has a few dents, and you have to ship it to a body shop in the next state, that's gonna add some expense, and while it's there you might as well have the shop paint it. If the shop is run by a bunch of dummies and then they try to powdercoat it and it blows up you'll have to start all over again.

Uh, maybe some of you other guys better chime in on this... Obviously my views are tainted by my need to sell parts and magazines.

sorry,

Re: gas tank question...

I put a poly tank in my 1970 SB and after about 3 months the truck will start and then die from the fuel that was in the tank -- drain and refill and its fine. Was planning on dropping and going back to a metal tank -- anybody else have the same problem?

Re: gas tank question...

What about the filler necks? Besides cutting one off a junk yard truck, are any sold new that would be usable for a fleet side?
