Estimated shop cost for transmission swap on a '70 C-10

I have a 1970 C-10 and a 2004R transmission that I'm looking to get swapped into it. I was wondering if anyone that has had transmission swaps done before could give an estimated labor-only cost on the swap? It's a Bowtie Overdrive transmission and I have the TV kit for it. Thanks in advance.

I did mine back in august here in san antonio and they quoted $250 for the remove and replace only.

I ended up having them rebuild a 700r4 and was out a total of $1200 including buying a core from some guy off craigslist.

It would depend on what you already have in the truck. Stick or automatic? If auto, which one?

Guess I could provide more details. It's an auto TH350 and I'm putting in a Bowtie Overdrives built 2004R. There's some problems with the current transmission, but I'm thinking of just having them rebuild it instead of doing the swap, at least for now.

Re: Estimated shop cost for transmission swap on a '70 C-10

I believe it is an easy swap out with a 350. The yoke is the same, your current cooling lines will work and I believe it is almost the same length so the drive shaft will work. TV cable bracket will be necessary. If you have a quadrajet or Holley they make specific brackets that will aid you in getting the right adjustment on the TV cable. You will also need a wiring kit from BTO or there is a description of "home made" wiring you can find on the search function relative to this swap. I assume that your current transmission has a 153 tooth flexplate and block (not bellhousing mounted) starter. I just finished mine in my burb but due to snow and salt, haven't been able to drive it or dial in the TV cable. Have to wait for warmer weather.

I'd say about 2.5 hrs for the swap plus actual time for the modifications. probably about 4 hours total.

but then you could have a "bench job" done on your TH350 for around $400 and do the R&R yourself.

Re: Estimated shop cost for transmission swap on a '70 C-10

So, it looks like we will be installing the 2004r ourselves. I haven't really done much with automatics, so does anyone have any advice for seating the torque converter or any other little tips for installing this thing without damaging the pump or anything along those lines? I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm in Austin also if you need another pair of hands during the install.

Thanks for the offers of help. We haven't quite decided when we're going to do the swap (screw this cold, haha), but I'll be sure to let you know when it's going to happen (soon I hope).
