3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
I have been trying to get this sorted out for some time as I am not real comfortable having my kids ride in the back with only lap belts. Has anyone found anything that will work? I have tried several options. I welded in the inner upper plates. I had hoped that the Suburban rear belts would work but they don't seem to fit the curve of the floor right. When that didn't work I ground the rivets off my stock crew cab floor mounting plates and plan to use them with the Suburban belts. Does anyone have a cleaner set up that is more of a bolt in?

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
I think they started in 1999 or 2000 thru 2006 but the newer body style suburbans/tahoes/ avalanches and trucks had integrated seat belts in the seats. Fabricate mounting brackets and mount the seats in the truck and you get the seat belts and comfortable seats too. This is assuming the width would be ok??

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
a different seat is a possibility for the rear but I had planned on staying original. Might upgrade the front stock buckets to something a little more supportive that reclines though

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
I thought the rear seats of a crew were the same as a regular cab truck?
I will have to look at my crew when I get home but I thought the rear seat belts were three-point?

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
OK, my crew does not have rear three-point belts.
But... on the inside of the door jamb there is what looks like a "push plug" on each side where the three point belt would bolt on. I could not pull the plug off with my bare hands so I don't know if the weld nuts or threaded inserts are under them or not. Also, the rear seat has some very different looking mounting brackets. So maybe I was way off in my assumption that the rear of the crew was the same as a regular cab?

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
Where the push plug is there are no threads. The backs of the crew cabs are identical pieces to the regular cab with the exception of not having this welded in plate for 3 point belts. (probably saved GM 50 cents a truck or so not having this) I cut these pieces out of another truck and welded them in correctly. I just cant get the lower part sorted out. I compared them to my 85 regular cab and they are different. I will see if I can get pictures of both to compare but for whatever reason the rear floor of the crewcab seems different than a regular cab.

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
I actually go suburban belts but they won't allow the doors to close right with the way it mounts to the floor.

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
What year is your crew cab? I've still got my old 81 crew cab in the back yard and it has factory 3-point belts front and rear in it.

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
Mine is 77 but I have seen a ton of crew cabs at the wrecking yards and none have had the 3 point rear belts. Do you have any pictures of your rear belts?

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
It would have the provisions for the 3 point in all of them. Usually there is a plug in it and you have to pry it out.

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
Well all I know is mine did not have provisions for the 3 point belts. It had the hole in the plastic trim and the hole in the metal behind it but the weld in piece that provides the support that you bolt two was not there. I cut open the cab of a truck at the wrecking yard and cut those pieces out. When I got home I used a spotweld cutter and removed the extra metal. I drilled 4 1/4" holel in a cross pattern around the pre punched large hole in my cab, fished the pieces up, used a seatbelt bot and large washer to pull them tight then welded in the 4 holes I drilled. I just can't get anything to fit the floor correctly.

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
The front is like a Suburban (which the front portion is like the front of a high hump regular cab), the center is specific to burbs and crew cabs, the rear is like a high hump regular cab. You can see the "seam" in this pic for reference.
Forgot to post this (1991 crew cab) this is the rear seatbelts on my crewcab:

I didn't notice the belts on the left side. I was just looking at the right side!

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
As an fyi, we just picked up an 89 crewcab/dually and it has the three point seat belts in the back pass and driver side. They look to be just like the ones captkaos showed.

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
And I feel like an ass. I had said my 81 crew had them in it as well but it doesn't as I found out last night when I finally made it out to the "back 40" to check it out for you. My bad. Sorry about that.

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
The rear seatbelts on my crew are 3 point, and the are IDENTICAL to the front seatbelts on my 87 regular cab (minus color)
IF you are looking for seatbelts, get the fronts from a Suburban or pickup and the rears from a RC pickup.

Re: 3 point rear belts in a crew cab?
After over 2 years of searching I FINALLY came up with factory crew cab rear seat belts for my truck. The funny thing is the truck they came out of was the cheapest 89 model available. It even was a rubber mat instead of carpet truck. The brackets are different where the mount to the floor than a regular cab although the actual belt assembly looks the same. I am STOKED!
