K&N Filter question
I am thinking about buying one of these
 , but I am wondering it it would catch on fire it the engine bacfires like one of thses would  I know everyone says not to get those edelbrock air cleaaners because they are a fire hazard, but would the k&n be the same way? If everyone thinks it will be ok I will probably go ahead and get one.I just figure it would hurt to ask first and make sure no one has heard of any problems with them.

I think they are flame retardant, mine has backfired a couple times and it never caught fire, although it did leave a discolored patch on the underside of the chrome top I have on mine.

aparetnly they dont make much difference. my boss/mechanic told me there like trying to feed a dead horse ? not my opinion HIS but i have just a k&n filter and noticed a big difference right away

I use K&N and they are nice, definatly a small boost in HP at least, most of them i think are soaked with some oil, so i dont see how they would catch fire

Ok, I am just wondering since every metal lid I have seen gets a little bit of gas on it when the vehicle is driven for a while, if the filter lid would be dangerous. I have a 14x4 filter assembly from k&n already, but the top plate is getting rusty, and I am trying to decide what to replace it with.

The cheapest way would be to paint the old filter lid to match your truck's paint job. Or paint it to match the motor. I do that until I can get to a swapmeet and find a cheap used Moroso or something. But then, I'm so cheap I squeak when I walk
