Re: 69 conversion to 4x4 ?

I asked a similiar question awhile back, I have a 84 4wd, and was asking how hard it would be to swapp the diffs onto a 68 short frame I have. i was told it would easier to make new cab mounts and put my 68 cab and bed over on the 84 frame, after I shortened it.
But I'm looking for some more idea also, so I'll be checking in on this thread also.

Contact member "Mudder" for converting a 73-87 frame to fit a 67-72 body.

Contact member "Gene" for converting 67-72 2wd frame to 4wd.

I actually stopped my conversion halfway through but after much research I know it can be done. www.diy4x.com has the kit to convert the front, and for the rear you can use spring hangers off of a 2wd GMC with leafs to convert the rear. I went with a 72 SWB 4x4 chassis I found on CL. I used the axels from a 91 Suburban, front bolted right in, back I had to relocate the shock mounts and spring perches.

69-72 GMC or a Chevy w/leafs should work. Rear mounts off a 80 3/4 ton I dunno. It has to have the same dimensions as your truck at the front(rear) hanger. Chevys and GMC's with Leafs have an angled front(rear) spring hanger that allows for the wider frame than the 4wd frame.

I have not done it but I have a 72 that has a 2x4 frame under it and the 4x4 components from a mid 70's attached to it. They did a pretty good job, it looks good and it has been that way and driven for over 20 years.
