rust seepage from seems on stepside
How are you guys dealing with the seams such as where the stake pockets attach to the bed (stepside) and the tailgate seams?
I sandblasted them as good as possible and painted but now there is rust coming through. Also, my brand new stepside tailgate is doing the same thing! Short of painting my truck every year, what can be done to stop this? Paint isn't even a year old and lots of problems showing now. Everytime I look, I find something else. I use my truck all year long and this winter was a tough one. Lots of salt!

Haven't got their yet myself. I'm trying using a rust convertor in the pockets and inners of tailgates...then priming and painting...later in my case. Dunno if it'll work, but I am hoping that might be the solution.

Salt is definately a car-killer. Hmmm, still welding up my panels, maybe I'll make everything seamless. (my cab is completely seamless, we'll see how this works out).

The fellow in the place where I buy parts and paint advised me to paint over seams and under places where I'm going to put Bondo, with glass fibre resin. That is, after sandblasting and before primer.

same problem
I had the same problem on my old bedsides until my body man sealed the seams with something. It took care of it but not sure what he used.

I used a product called chemprime, and rust converter. I think the chemprime is good...it is similar to another procuct Ospho. Then primed over that.
