Re: VA Lift Laws

I think you might want to move to a different state! That is rediculous. what if you change tire size because you have a blown tire and all they have is the next size up, does that make it illegal?

What if it was altered in another state and then you registered it there? are they not going to allow you to register it? maybe thats a loop hole.

You can register anything as long as it passes the smog test...if you have that in your county. You just can't drive it on a public road without a safety inspection sticker on the windshield.

If you ever want to have a good laugh, go download the VA Commonwealth Inspector's Manual....it is just NUTS. Among the things that are denoted as forbidden....

:any non stock steering wheel
:any exhaust parts that change the tone or db level from stock
:you have already seen height and lift rules
:maximum of 4 forward facing white lights. (this means no fog lights on my GMC)
...there's so much stuff in the book that it is silly. Last one I saw in person was almost 3 inches thick.

Re: VA Lift Laws

The bast one was years ago. You did not have to have a windshield, but you still had to have working windshield wipers...

That`s why it`s called a commonwealth.

Re: VA Lift Laws

so just come to iowa. you can go as high as the bridge and as wide as the lane. No inspections or smog, just you and an empty field when the crops come down. gotta love it here.

Re: VA Lift Laws

well what i have ben told by dmv is for 1/2-3/4ton trucks its like 31 or so in from the ground to the bottem of your frame. and for 1ton and bigger its what ever you want as long as it fits on your side of the the road. i live in va to and in the culpepr, orange, madison area they dont care how high you are as long as your not cutten up.

^----if this is true then im way over the limit.

this is my truck on 38's next to my dads 73 mustang. to give you a idea of how high it sits. they have never botherd me. and there is like 2 other trucks around me that are alittle taller then me and no one has botherd them.

Re: VA Lift Laws

I saw a`90s F150 on the used car lot for sale in Waterloo (US50 & US340) that sat high as a kite for sale. You never know what a DH cop that`s not gettin`any might do.But,just look around for high trucks. If you see pretty many I`d say they`re being left alone.Usually when a new laws comes out that hit a lot of trucks up,then move on to the next ticketing trend.Just behave, don`t build a ridiculous truck and I think you`re alright.Or move over the hill to the Culpepper area.
Why not talk to some 4wd shops and inspection stations and feel it out?Do they see a lot of violations?I keep my lifting for older trucks. They can`t mess with those too much. Most are unfamiliar with how they are supposed to sit and you can always just register it historic and flip them the bird if they do come down on you.Maryland has street rod tags for modified older vehicles.Isn`t that like saying it`s ok?

El Lame-o.Well,they are where guys "have to" go.They`d be good for that.Otherwise they are just a catalog store. You can mail order anything they sell and save a lot. They don`t stock anything anyway. They wouldn`t even sell me a step bumper for my`90 Blazer because the brackets would need modified.I bought one elsewhere for cheaper and modified the brackets, with no compromise to safety what so ever.Talk about a bolt-on shop.I always wanted to open a shop called Truck Tricks just to pee them off.Besides, that`s what I`d do...tricks with trucks.Something that doesn`t come from a box.I`ve used Hagerstown Spring Works for a couple decades or more for custom spring work. You should give them a shot.Who Know`s,Henry just may be able to hook you up.It isn`t that far away.
