Talking New Truck - wheeling and dealing

So some of you may have remembered awhile ago that I was looking at getting a crewcab swb truck and I was going to trade it for my standard cab swb...well in order to do that trade, I wanted to keep my diesel, 700r4, A/C, and some other things...well, it was just too much work to do in a short amount of time and I wouldn't have a second vehicle or a truck for a while...and my wife is due in March with our little boy, so a second vehicle is necessary right now with all the dr.s appointments she has...well, the guy came over to the house today and asked what I wanted to do, and I told him that I didn't want to trade for my truck and asked what he wanted for his truck...well, we came up with a price and I told him I had a mustang notch for sale, so he went and looked at it...well, long story short, the mustang is gone and the ccswb is sitting in my yard now...lol...I love it...so anyways, tell me what you think about the trade...oh yeah and the mustang was only a 4 cylinder 5 speed car...

here's pictures of the crew cab...then of the mustang...

Re: Wheeling and Dealing

I got a buddy that owns a metal fab shop...he's going to reinforce and box it in for me...this truck will be bagged and I'm going to do a street rod style interior in it...I run a custom auto interior shop so it won't be much of a problem...

and also, the 3/4 ton running gear that's under the crewcab is going to get swapped for the 1/2 ton running gear under my diesel...

Re: Wheeling and Dealing

I know thats not the prefered way to shorten one on this site. I did mine like that about 7 years ago now and have not had one single issue with it. Mine does have a plate on the inside of the rails to support it, but it is not boxed.

I have hauled gravel and two loads of lumber to build my porch in it since. There has been no cracking or anything around the welds. As long as there is good penetration around it, you will be fine. I would add a plate to the back though, and get the rust scuffed off and painted over soon. Dont let everyone here scare you into redoing it.

Other than that I think you came out better in the deal. Good luck swapping everything over.

Re: Wheeling and Dealing

looking at the swap info here on the site, it'll be the control arms and everything attached to them and then the spring packs and the rear end...doesn't sound too rough...I'm going to rebuild the front end components with new ball joints and bushings and redo the brakes all the way around before I put them up under my diesel...

and about the frame...I know it's not the preferred method here, and it should last a long time the way it's done, but I'm gonna have two babies in this thing with me sometimes and I don't wanna take the chance...the bed's already off and it won't be nothing for me to load it up on a trailer and take it to my buddy's shop and have him plate it on the inside and if he wants he can box it up for me...I have to take it to him to weld in a c notch anyways, so I might as well have him do this too...

Chuck.

thanks fellas...I think I made out like a bandit...the other guy wanted something he could make some money off of and this truck was just too much for him I guess...I think I got my money's worth in the trade...

also, the exterior color is going to be orange and white two tone with dark and light two tone tan interior........or I'm going to do the truck all black epoxy primer on the outside, and I mean everything...grill, mirrors, bumpers, what they call murdered out...lol and if I do it black on the outside, the interior is going to be solid porno red...just don't know yet...

Re: Wheeling and Dealing

You definitely got the better end of the deal.

I'd love to have a CCSB 4x4.
