? bracket on top of trans monut

please see photo.
I need to know what this bracket is.
when I removed the trans it was on top of the mount .
so the rubber trans mount is under this bracket.
this part has been cut on before with a torch.
thanks for any help

2 the board that pic isnt very clear but from what i can see it dosent look like its anything that should be there since you say it's been cut on before im thinkin it was something put there form the previous owner for what ever reason.

I would reinstall the mount and toss that bracket i see no reason for it to be there none of these trucks i've ever worked on has ever had it.

What part of Ga. u in ?

I have never seen this bracket on ones of these trucks , but I did not know for sure.
I can get a few more photos of just the bracket.

looks like maybe they crossmember mount was giving away and the PO took that piece of metal there and put it in there to get the tranny up off the crossmember so they weren't touching...I had a bad crossmember mount and the tranny was touching the crossmember, so I know it'll happen...just don't know why they'd put that metal in there....

My 88 Caprice has a similar bracket that holds the exhaust pipe.700-R4 trans.
Don't know how it got on your truck!

maybe they swapped trannies and thought they'd need it on the truck so they kept it and put it on there...
