spring Q?

I was out in my pit today, and noticed underneath a 72 cheyenne 1/2 ton an extra set of springs. it has the normal coils, but another set about 1/2 the size coming up from above the axle. The glove box says heavy rear springs, so i assume it is factory. If it is, is this rare? or have i just not noticed these before? It isn't the 1/2 leaf overload spring, it looks like mini coils. anybody know?

Not rare, those are helper springs for coil trucks.

Can you post a picture of that? I've only seen the 1/2 leaf helpers on a coil rear.

Longhorn, i will see if sakohntr (bruce) can take any pictures, our computer upgrade is in the future. The coils are about 2 1/2 inches across, on top of the axle tube. Looks strange.
