need ideas or opinions on this.
Well now that i got my fuel pump done i need to do my harmonic balancer. i took my truck to a few shops to ask about it wobbling they say it is worn out or someone beat it on so know im out to change it. what i need to know is when i pull it off what do i need to look for to get a balancer to match close to it. also should i buy a new one or go to the wrecking yard and pick one up. also i have to change the pullys the lower and upper one have a extra slot for a/c wich i dont have so i need any ideas on wich ones to get. thanks

Junk yard balancer???????
Please don't do that. Go to a local Napa or the Chevy place and get a NEW damper. If you go anywhere besides Chevy, ask them "is it new?" and "where was it made?". A bad damper (aka; balancer) can ruin your engine. (Makes the bearings toast) Be sure you get a puller to get the old one off too. |

Ya i didnt care to much for going to the wrecking yard for a balancer but sometimes you have to do what you can afford but i think i could swing for a new balancer and my borther in law has a puller so im set there. I will probably go to a place called performance motorsports they seem to know there stuff and are pretty good. if they cant help i will go to my local chevy dealer which is also a great place. As for the pulleys how do i find out which ones i need. thanks

As for the pulleys...
If you are set to change them I would look for a truck like yours in a wrecking yard and see if it has A/C or not. If it didn't then you could probably use those. Make sure any used ones you get are not warped and this can really screw many things up. You could also find all of them at the Chevy place but I don't know what they might cost there. If you go the junkyard route then keep in mind that many Chevys used the same pulleys as we have on our trucks. Measure the diameter of the pulleys you have now and take a scrap of the belt you use to make sure you get the right ones. You really need to measure the depth of the old ones too. So get out that ruler and pop the hood.....write all of the dimensions down and hit the yard. Good Luck, Mike |

If you change the pulleys to ones without AC, you'll also need to change belts. The non AC pulleys are smaller for some strange reason.

Ya i guess i better measure. i guess the pulleys wouldnt be to big of a issue would it.?

Unless you are going for looks, I wouldn't bother with the pullies. My dad has a 6.2 diesel conversion van and the A/C went out on that a long time ago. To try to make more room (if this is possible in a vans engine bay) we removed the A/C junk and just got rid of the belts. The pulleys still have the groove, but nothing is being used. No big deal, unless you want to have a cleaner looking engine or you are paticular that your truck looks like it never had A/C as an option.
