Most of the monte carlo guys i know use these http://www.spitzkraft.com/detail.php?item=10&numlow=1 But having a lifted truck why not buy a off road bumper and mount some off road lights in it.

this is what i have on my truck i would get you a picture of them on the actual truck but my truck is in the body shop right now. You can only buy 2 because they will match your highbeam bulbs you have in there now. I too wouldnt go with anything higher then a 6000k bulb on an hid kit. those h4 harnesses arent worth it because by the time you buy the harness and the bulbs your more into it then buying an HID kit that is just plug and play.

Re: HID conversion on 84 chevy with dual headlights anyone done this need tips

http://www.classicgarage.com/16rehe.html - for the headlight housings
http://www.ddmtuning.com/index.php?p...parent=85&pg=1 - for the hid's

this is what i just bought a couple days ago for my 84. great pricing at both places and the hid's have a lifetime waranty. (spend the extra $20 for the digital slim ballast version. lasts longer and better quality)

Re: HID conversion on 84 chevy with dual headlights anyone done this need tips

Guys, I can make this really, really simple for all of you.

1. Just call Sinister Autosports at 317-870-7570, and ask to talk to Mike (there's only one Mike there).

2. Tell him you saw pics on the internet of a '78 Chevy blue monster truck with HID's that he did. Tell him the make, model, year, and headlight configuration on your truck, and tell him you want to buy the kit.

3. He will sell you all the stuff you need- Bulb housings, HID bulbs, HID ballast, wiring, everything- plus he'll give you directions on how to install it, or you could just take it to any local shop and have the kit installed.

4. This is a GOOD kit. Bright as hell, good quality stuff, tried and proven by a bunch of people around here on many different classic cars and trucks. Should be about $500 for everything.

Take it from me, and save yourself the guessing game that comes with HID's. Trust me, there are hundreds of brands and many MANY of them are TRASH, not real HID's, come from friggin' Siberia or Peking or Louisville, and break on sight.

Hope this helps.

Scootin, HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. On our stock trucks we have the housing that has the bulb configured in it. So when you want to replace the bulb you have to replace the whole headlight. With newer cars there is a housing that you can remove the bulb out of which makes changing bulbs easier.

With HID's you use the new fuction of bulbs but with a different bulb. Instead of a standard bulb that has a filament, the HID bulb has gases (Xenon) and salts. They have a little more that just a power and ground to run them. They need a higher power to turn the gases and salts into light. This is where a starter and a ballast come in. The car is connected to the starter which sends the signal to the ballast which is like a Amp for the lights. HID bulbs need time to warm up which is turning the gases and salts to light. That's why if you've ever seen them cut on the look like they flash on and then get brighter.

So if you want better lighting and you want HID's you will need to get newer housings that acomidate the use of replacement bulbs and buy a HID kit that includes the Bulbs, Ballast and Starters. They normally come in a kit. All you need to do is hook up the power and ground to the starter, plug the HID bulb into the headlight and secure the placement of the ballast.

Another thing to note is that HID's aren't recommended for high beams. Reason being is becuase people flash their high beams on and off. This is what actually causes the HID's to go bad. The starting of the gases and salts turning to light and then back off will cause the salts to not work properly later on. So since the low beams are on more at a soild time, that's why they are used. Now there are projector's that will allow the use of a signal HID bulb and has a flapper inside for the High beam so it actually is on all the time and won't ruin the bulb. That's another story though. Hope I gave you some more info. If you have any questions or I was confusing I'll certainly help.
