Questions on "making" an air cab

I have found several non-air cabs and want to ask what the best way is of making them look (interior only) like a factory air cab. I have heard that many people cut along the dash pad slots and then fit it to the upper portion of the existing dash. Anybody out there have such a lower...if so please PM me with price and shipping to 35634 Florence, AL.

I know my fab guy would have no trouble with the center vent...and I know where there is a local air cab yhat I could use as a pattern for the lower side vent cut-outs...they appear like they could be a bit tricky.

Anyway..does a "pattern" or "template" exist on this site? Am I just over thinking this dilemma?

The firewall will be smooth with billet bulkhead fitting and I am using a Vintage Air Sure Fit unit inside cab.

I believe VA comes with a template so you can cut the center and outer vent holes to fit their vents...check '67chevyredneck' build page on his VA system....

I am doing that in my 69' cab. I have "down the line" plans to put Vintage Air in my truck but I wanted the interior to look as if air was already there. I picked up a lower portion of a dash from a local guy and he cut the middle vent and the 2 side vents out. it looks really good. i have not put that dash in yet so i'll try to trace them for you. i'll pm you later and tell you how it comes out and then get your address to send it to you.

Thanks gcburdic...I will hurt through the boxes of Vintage Air papers, maybe I just didn't see it. I am BAD with instructions. lol

Myoldchevytruck...PM sent. I have the Vintage Air unit and I'll check for a template. I'll advise. I'll send you the VA template if they included one in my box of stuff. Maybe I can figure a way to post it on the forum...might help others thinking about doing the same thing.

It's no big deal to cut them out Va gives you a tamplet just tape them on and have at it I cut mine out after the cab was painted a little care and the outer ring cover the cuts the look like factory

My Old Air A/C setup came with the templates. They were kind of a pain to cut though.

Well, I rumaged through my Vintage Air papers and actually found the templates...pages 12 and 13 of the 17 pages of instructions.

Here's my Vintage Air System, looks pretty stock (was just installed when bought). To be honest, I'd of put vents in the radio slot and done something with the ashtray or underseat for the stereo. That center vent pretty much pushes all the air towards the driver (good in my case).

Mondo...thanks for the pix. Have to agree with you...vents where the radio is (radio in glove box or in center console) might be cool. Yours looks good. Thanks agin. Tom

I have classic auto air and when we installed it we had to cut all the vents out, pretty easy...with their template...
