Re: Look what followed me home.....

I like your photos.........great advertisement for the necessity of regular oil changes. I thought my timing chain was bad with nearly 1/4" of slop. Was your cam timing gear plastic?

The replacement 350 should work nicely......the heads are Vortec...good design for a stocker.

LT1 swap is planned for the summer.
Can you provide a link for your engine cable/tilt device?

Those 193s aren't bad for the intended purpose, fuel mileage and low rpm torque.

Thanks for posting the videos

Re: Look what followed me home.....

Thats why I'm swapping over to a bbc on my 86. I can use the power for towing and its not that much worse on mileage. If your truck has a 700r4 try driving it around in drive and not overdrive and see if the mileage picks up. 700r4 and highway gears are horrible for mileage along with tall tires.

My 305 tbi engine in my camaro gets about 17 city and full highway trips 25-26.

Re: Look what followed me home.....

Well I swapped out my vac advance canister for a old one I had on another dist , that had a shorter stroke, so I didn't get so much initial vac advance, reset the timing and this last tank was 14mpg and that was even some highway time and a tiny hole weeping gas out of the bottom of the tank. Picked up my core support and lower valance today from the guy and started installing that along with the surround molding I picked up from the junkyard..

Before..

After...

Got to pick up a headlight harness and then start on the bodywork.

Re: Look what followed me home.....

OK started the bodywork on the front end....
stripped off the sprayed on primer and cleaned some surface rust ,then sprayed two coats of epoxy primer/sealer.

gonna scuff and sand and try and get some topcoat on tomorrow. Can't stand to look at the primer anymore.

Re: Look what followed me home.....

That was one heck of a worn out timing chain. looks like the 305 I took out of my 87. it was all gunked up.
But this is the weirdest thing on that 305, its one of the pushrods, with the end half busted off. the engine had 180k on it and other than the normal puff of smoke on startup, it ran real good.

Re: Look what followed me home.....

Painted up, Not to shabby ..for cheap paint and a cheap gun.

Its got some trash in it, but for now It will do the job until I decide to take the whole thing apart and strip it and paint it.

Why you don't use spray can primer ..Its porous and lets moisture in and starts rusting the panel under the primer.
