putting new seals in my vent windows...HELP Please
So I got a complete rubber kit and was like "yea gunna put all new rubber in" and pulled all the old rubber out of the vent windows, then I realized you have to put new rivets in AFTER YOU TAKE THE WHOLE THING APART. Well I started the project got the new rubbers in and Im having so much trouble with these little rivets, I cant seem to get them in. the "kit" came with a little rod to brad them over with but that seems a rather poor way of trying to do this as you cant get a hammer in the places where the rivets go.
Anyone done this task before? Pointer? Am I not using the best tool? Is there a thread on this already I overlooked when searching? Any help is extremely appreciated. -Webb |

Re: putting new seals in my vent windows...HELP Please
FAQ has a good writeup on this. I used pop rivets for mine. The tool (gun)/rivets are available at home depot or any hardware store. I would leave the "pivot rivet" alone and just remove the two rivets that hold that bracket to the frame. They are much easier to replace with a pop rivet gun than the awkward tool. There is an awesome tool that "mbgmike" sells on here that is for the style of rivets that you already have. He is a board vendor, try giving him a PM.

Re: putting new seals in my vent windows...HELP Please
If you will follow scott's advice it will go much smoother. I restored my first set with the correct rivets- total pain in the a--, especially doing it myself. The second one went easier after I used a 5/16 36" steel rod to hold the rivet from the back side while bradding the rivet with a tack hammer. The second set used scott's method and it went so much easier that I could have kicked myself for doing it the hard way the first time.
