A bed/gate like no other...

Every time I walk into my shop, I cringe.... I see the Disaster sitting there, the most extreme street-driven truck that I may possibly ever own. Beside it, sits the bed...... STOCK! BONE STOCK! Well, not really but close. The bedsides are 100% stock, the inside is smoothed flat with 18ga and trailer fenders, the bed has DelRay tails and louvers, but that's it, it still looks too, "Truck-ish".

I look at the pink freak, the greatest idea of great ideas, fins. Something wild and crazy like that would be great, but I need an idea, anybody have one? The catch is I can't unibody it, as the bed still has to come off (tires only come off that way...) If anyone has anything at all, the wilder the better, that would be so sweet.

Re: A bed/gate like no other...

I was going to incorporate a 59 mercury rear into my 60 build until the salvage yard crushed the only one withinn a 300 mile radius of me....

you would have to modify part of the doors and cab too, but I think the lines would work.

Re: A bed/gate like no other...

One idea I was tossing around for my '63 short step is to take a Fleetside bed and narrow it to 50" inside diam. and graft my stepside fenders on. Then I would take rear section of a panel, cut the tops off the barn doors fab it in at the same angle creating a split gate. Don't think anyone has ever done that to my knowledge.

Re: A bed/gate like no other...

I really like this idea as well...
I think it is a 61-2 cad bumper and lower fin
also notice that the upper rear of the bed is a continuation of the side, not just a flat panel..

Re: A bed/gate like no other...

Now that looks good Jon!.....I like it. I do like the use of the bedside for the tail. I've only seen one or two others like that.

Re: A bed/gate like no other...

The work on the truck was cruiser quality. It doesn't appear that the owner was after a show truck, just a cool idea on a truck that he plans to use as a truck.

Re: A bed/gate like no other...

Thanks for the help everyone! I've got a rough sketch based on some of the information I've picked up here, and a list of parts to go searching for. It won't be getting fins, but it will be... Well... Fitting for the truck. Thanks!

Re: A bed/gate like no other...

Does anyone know about the black truck that I posted. I know it's from Brazil. Is that a factory bed?
