Not sure what I have here SUBURBAN
Ok so I have came into these and I am trying to find out some info on them. Here is what I know about them they are between 65 and 67 the body’s are straight and fairly rust free. 2 wheel drive manual trans. Here is what I think they have original motors drive train and look to be all there, not missing any pieces. What I’ve been told. The friend I got them from says they were ordered from the dealer ship with the body’s modified like they are one has the raised roof the other has no rear doors and the box in the back. They both have extra heater cores in the back. Also I have not seen any others with windows like these have. They both have some of the largest leaf spring packs in the back I have ever seen. I have look around both trucks somewhat and can’t seem to find any coach works tags or any tags saying anything about them. Also I have looked all over the net and can’t find anything even close to them. If anyone has any info or can point me in the right direction finding out some more about them that would be very much appreciated
If this is in the wrong place feel free to move it. Thanks for the help. Let me know if you guys need more pics I wont be able to get them til thursday of friday put i can take as many as needed http://s174.photobucket.com/albums/w...mpse/Carryall/ |

They are '64-'66 Chevy Suburban conversions. I have seen them in the Silver Book, but I don't have them here...they are at my shop. I will check them out in the Silver Books and report back. Very unique. Thanks for sharing.

They almost look like they could have been prison road-gang buses or something.

Re: Not sure what I have here SUBURBAN
interesting.. they started out as the long wheelbase, 3/4 or 1 ton panel trucks.
I am guessing the pop top one is a 65.

the one with the open back and the raised roof were made and used in the logging industry. they were called a crummy. used to take loggers out in the bush everyday to their work site. chainsaws and such went in the back

I might go with the oddity... neat, but not sure what i would do with one.
they would be perfect all fixed up and in some sort of logging museum.

padresaG is right..My logging relatives called those types of rigs a crummy. Might be able to dig up a photo or two those types of rigs in action.
Although I believe the ones in the photos I have are 4x4s. They would haul men and equipment to the job site and back.. Funky rigs! Last edited by bullington; 01-18-2010 at 09:56 PM. |

Re: Not sure what I have here SUBURBAN
you could have seen those trucks in any logging community on Vancouver Island or on the b.c. coast at one time

Re: Not sure what I have here SUBURBAN
If the basic vehicle is sound and only needs updating it I would say go for it!
You would never have to worry about pulling up to a stop light and somebody else pulling up in the exact same vehicle. Maybe a DuroMax / Allison install with all the creature comforts like A/C, Tilt, P/S etc...? |
