Emerg brake mounting for 4speed Auto guys

How have you all hooked up the emergency brakes on your 63-66 Chevy/GMC trucks after you have installed a 700R4 or 4L80E transmission?

If you hang tight I can take a picture of what I did but it might be a few. I used a crossmember out of a 67 truck though. I bascially cut the Manual crossmember up and kept the parts where the bar slips in and bolted it to the new crossmember with some spacers. Hard to explain but easy to show. Also... Crude but effective. I would rather just put a 66 set up in.

I am facing this same dilemma with my 700r4.

I would suggest taking a look at the cable setup used on the '66-'72's. There's no crossmember to deal with, just cables. If the factory pieces won't work, I would think you could modify them to make them work or make your own pieces from that design.

Re: Emerg brake mounting for 4speed Auto guys

Did the 65 still use the pivoting lever mounted on a crossmember like my 63 did? Are you asking about what to do if you eliminate that mechanism?

Im not to that problem quite yet, but was planning on an all cable sytem with no lever, much like on my 68 camaro. Is that what you are talking about Captain?

1966 and later e brake setup information, lots of pictures, diagrams, etc..

some people use a lokar brake setup, they say it is simpler and saves aggravation. They are probably right.

My '65 c10 did not have the internal pieces inside the drums on the rear when I bought it, so it was very *interesting* making sure that I had all of the parts and pieces.

Good luck.
