More Power
hey first post, been looking for a place where people know the old chev. I am looking to get some more horses out of my chevy. I posting this in here because my 88 more closely resembles the 73 thru 87. I got a 88 chev r 3500 crew cab with a 454. it is nearly stock except the converters been removed and it has true duals. The stock numbers are around 235 hp and 370 trq. I would like to get somewhere in the n eighborhood of 350 hp and 4 to 425 torque. What is the cheapest way. Should I ditch the tbi and go with a intake carb and headers or keep it and change somethin else Thanks for the info in advance.

Re: More Power
Welcome to the site.
You can find upgrade parts at http://www.cfm-tech.com/ The 454 was weak for such a monster. Do you want to keep the FI system? |

Re: More Power
I am not concerned if I keep the fi. Its nice but I want power. If I can get both great. The truck also does not want to idle very high when started after being run. But thats a diff issue. If I got rid of the fi would it affect other systems like the ac and such or is the fi a stand alone computer system.

Re: More Power
You can convert to carb with an intake, carb, mechanical distributor, and a bypass style fuel regulator. It's nice because you can tune the carb and ignition yourself without any special tools.
Of course, check the emissions laws in your area if they exist and whether or not the truck will still get through inspection if you do these mods.

Re: More Power
Well its been awhile but I have decided to take the fi off. Mostly because it no longer runs and I cant figure out why. No spark and no codes from the computer. I think its dead (computer) Plus I believe more power can be easily acheived by a carb intake and headers. That being said what intake and carb do you guys recomend. I use this truck to tow a pretty heavy camper so torque is important.
