Re: What is this?
Looks like a very old trailer brake controller. For a trailer with electric brakes.

Re: What is this?
Brakes on trailer would be electric. When you hit the brakes in the truck that module detects it and sends a voltage to the trailer brakes. The farther you push on your brakes the higher the voltage sent to your trailer brakes.

Re: What is this?
hahahaha bull sh1t. thats some herb my friend!!!
it will sense the amount of pressure you apply, and apply it to the trailer as you mash on the braked, any trailer in most states over 1200 lbs must be equipped with trailer brakes... I found an old ac delco cruz controll one time on a budys 72 he bought, it physically held the throttle open via a cable.... that was about as safe as that little dingy you got there. |

Re: What is this?
Hehehe yeah well i know cannabis is legal over there.
Anyways i think the really old controllers like that one used both ele and hydraulic ele for the trailer and hyd for the tow vehical it would apply the breaks to both vehicle and trailer at the same time im not sure how it accomplished it but my dad had one like that on one of his trucks when i was a kid that he use to pull a travel trailer with and i remember him having to plumb it into the trucks hyd break system. Todays trailer electric breaks only use a digital controller to apply the trailer breaks independent of the tow vehicals. Im sure if you google ele/hyd and ele break controller you can find all sorts of info on them. |

Re: What is this?
That's an old Kelsey Hayes. It works off the brake fluid pressure and if it is in good repair, it's far superior to any straight electric controller (as long as it functions properly). Just can't use em on anything with ABS.
Where electric trailer brakes have to have the brake application rate changed manually, that one is self adjusting when you need it. Say you have your brakes setup just right for easy driving and braking, well if you go to slam on the brakes for an emergency the trailer brakes will only hit good enough for easy stops. the controller you have will apply brakes to the trailer depending on how much you press the pedal. you press the pedal easy, it hits the trailer brakes easy. you slam em on hard, it'll hit em on the trailer hard without you having to adjust it. As far as adjusting for when it's loaded, unloaded you should just twist the control knob for that. |

the red wire is your hot feed, black wire is ground, and the blue goes to the trailer brakes.
