biulding 350 sbc
hey guys having a real hard time figuring out what i should do to my small block 350. i want to do a best bang for the buck kind of deal for know. have a 68 shortbox its going into and want it be a cruiser/hotrod. i want it to have a relly nice good size lope to it and have up to 300-400 hp. this will be my first build to a 350 engine and wondering what i should invest my money into to make this happen.

You could build a 383 stroker and get the HP your looking for and lots of torque pretty easily but if you do not want to go that route I would probly upgrade the cam, heads, rockers, intake, carb, and a nice set of headers.

streetable is relative, everyone has their own definition, I consider my motor to be mild, and I'd be happy with a ZZ572 on a daily driver if I could afford it and the gas.

As already mentioned you could go with a stroker or you could also go the Edelbrock route, if I remember correctly there is a power package specially designed for ant desired engine..

I love my 383 Stroker. In fact I just finished one for my new truck. Just keep the compression to 9.5 and use a cam that is 218-224@.050 duration and you can easily make that power and drive it all day long!

I'm in the same shape of trying to decide which way to go on the engine.
I have a Edelbrock intake and my ?? is will it work on the Vortec heads? I got aset stck set of heads but nothing fancey about them. Also have a new Vodo cameshaft, the block is 40 over w alum keith black pistons. Just got to make up my mind about the heads selection now! Good luck on ya build.

All i have is an eldelbrock intake and 500cfm carb.
nothing else lol well block and old parts and needing machine work

thanks for the input. i was thinkin stroker also just havent got enough info on them yet. also was thinkin maybe do the vortec heads heard they help alot.

^^^ No. Intake is not compatable. Vortec heads are a great upgrade though. Best bang for the buck.

Might want to move this over into the Engine section...
Budget is really the driving question here. Overall, if you're starting from scratch your best deal is a used Vortec long block. |
