2007 5.3L starting system wiring?????

I have been building a 68 stepside with a 2007 5.3L/4L60 setup for to long now..LOL. I was just finishing up the wiring, I though, and now I am unsure of the starting. A little brian storm--- the PCM enables the starter when it sees everything is good. The problem I am facing is the PCM won't see the ign. input because I am running the 68 ign. switch and the 2007 ign switch feeds into the BCM and then the BCM relays the message through GMLAN high speed network. Now if I just feed the starter enable circuit from ign switch will it start.. I know I will need to dissable Passlock and other stuff, I have EFI Live to do that, but at this time I am just worried about the wiring..

Thanx for you input guys..
Trevor

Re: 2007 5.3L starting system wiring?????

I don't know about 2007, but on 2005 5.3 from suburban, it was wired so that when you went to ignition on, relay energized to supply all "ignition on" circuits on fuse panel, including the PCM. When switch was taken to start position, the starter relay was energized to send power to turn starter. No bcm interaction required . Hope this helps. What fuse, relay center and wiring harness are you using?

Re: 2007 5.3L starting system wiring?????

I just looked at the starter wiring diagram for the 2007 silverado. The diagram shows its a data communication line from the BCM to the PCM like you said. I would say to bypass the starter relay & hook the starter up like the 68 originaly was hooked up. Just hook the purple wire to the solenoid & go.

So you think it will start if everything has its ignition power and the starter is engaged.

Re: 2007 5.3L starting system wiring?????

I wired my starter directly from the blazer's original harness. The PCM just needed the constant hot and ign hot wired from my secondary fuse box. I used a 2005 Escalade PCM/6.0L set up. It starts up just fine and the computer runs the engine just fine.

Re: 2007 5.3L starting system wiring?????

the only dirfference is the 2007 has a whole new operating system.. Instead of serial data it has GMLAN Network high and low speed networks..

Re: 2007 5.3L starting system wiring?????

I would do a search on the hotrodlane.cc website. I believe I got the url correct. They have done alot of swaps and have the wiring diagrams on there website for mating old to new. Hope that helps.

The Proud Wife

Interesting! This is his very proud wife and I certainly can not wait to be driving this truck on date nights in the summer. He has spent many hours in the garage, and on the computer researching so it is awesome to see this all come together. Great Job. Love your proud wife, the one that will definately be sitting right beside you... soon. XOXO
