Looking for 3.73 gears

I believe the truck is running 2.93 or so at the moment in the 12 bolt. I'd like to move up to 3.73 gears. A few questions..
1. What brand/make/supplier should I look for?
2. Will I need to change to a different size carrier? I'm currently running a size 3 if I'm not mistaken. Some people say I can still use the size 3 with 3.73 gears, and not have to move up to a size 4.
3. Anyone in North Texas (Dallas), that recommends a shop or an individual to do the swap at a resonable price?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
T. C.

Trinic,

I know in my 12 bolt rear I had to switch carriers going from 3.73s to 3.07s. So, by extrapolation I would say that you'll need to do the same thing.

If you are looking for a used carrier or gears, I have them available.

I'm in Wylie as well and I know that speedtek does them as well as 4wheel parts on Plano Road. Also you might talk with Ryan (67SS_396) on the other board as well. He might know of a guy that can help you out. I'm wanting to do the same thing as well.

Website

If you want some real useful info on this, do a websearch for STRANGE AXLES and GEARS. I believe they are now known as U.S. Gear. These people have been around a long time making gears and axles, quality is excellent and thier prices aren't too bad.

Here's the website: www.usgear.com

They make a 3.73 gear for the #3 carrier. I think it's $20 extra.
