Re: what headers for ls swap?
When I first did my swap, I used Hedman block hugger headers. I then switched to a set of Pacesetter LT's for a 99-06' truck. Those required notching the frame and modifying the collector to clear the shackles. Right now I have a set of Doug Thorley LS swap headers on order. I'm hoping they will fit, even with the frame filled back in. I asked everywhere, including Thorley themselves, and no one knows for sure if they work on a 4X. Doug Thorley did tell me though that to the best of their knowledge, they will.

Re: what headers for ls swap?
I would be afraid to think how to make some fit. I don't see how you could do the swap without a suspension lift. I have an 8" suspension lift on my truck, and the oil pan is only about 8-10" away from the front differential with motor slightly tilted to the back and the transfer case raised 2" off the crossmember.

racin69z- What are you afraid wouldn't fit? The headers? Where do you think there would be a clearance issue?

Re: what headers for ls swap?
When I put mine in, I had my transfer case in the stock position and the stock engine crossmember in. I ran into oil pan clearance issues with the stock engine crossmember. I wound up building a new engine crossmember. I wound up raising the transfer case up 2" to level the motor. I could not have done it without the body lift.
As far as headers, I never really looked because mine go up above the frame. I did measure and the LS motor is about 2" wider than a standard small block. Lynn |
