3.73 or 3.43?

Im switching gears (or rearends if i can find one) in my truck. it has 3.08s and im not really happy with them as on the high way i run RPMs below my optimal powerband. id like to have a rearend that i will still be able to drive on the highway and pull a trailer with. i was thinking 3.43 or 3.73 richmond gears? the truck is a LWB with a Th400 and 400 sbc? which ratio would be better for my truck in your opinions?

I went with 373's and it has worked out awesome.....power at low speeds and the highway the rpms are not too high.

Re: 3.73 or 3.43?

If you do occasional towing and roadability is critical then 373's are pretty good choice. If MPG is also an important consideration, then the 342's are a great compromise. 308's are a little tall and 4.11's are a little to low for most combined driving. Huck

Re: 3.73 or 3.43?

with the tall tires you have, I'd go for the 3.73 gearset.

Re: 3.73 or 3.43?

I`d say 3.73 with the taller tires.A 2wd I`d say 3.42s to still pull or go with o/d.

Re: 3.73 or 3.43?

wanted 373 but found a 3.08 for 75$

is this too good of a deal? dont do much highway so no need for tall gears..
