Help restoring bed on a shortbed/fleetside???
Can somebody give me some guidance on restoring the bed on my '65 Chevy shortbed/fleetside? When I bought my truck the bed was already apart and off the truck. I am not sure where each of the "cross sills"/braces go. If you have pix - that would be great. Thanks for your help!

Re: Help restoring bed on a shortbed/fleetside???
I'm trying to remember right but I think most of the braces hang free till they are bolted to the wood bed and to the sides of the bed. In fact with no wood in the bed will slide off. Found this out after removing rotted wood and hittin my brakes hard(stupid car ahead of me stopped in the middle of a 45mph road for no reason... guess they missed their turn) and the bed slammed into the cab, got home and check and sure enough I could lift the entire bed up....

Give these guys a try: www.mar-k.com They have a great site, there are "Made in USA" and their products are awesome. You can also refer to the 1960-1966 Chev/GMC Factory Assembly Instruction Manual for this information. I don't have mine with me or I would tell you the correct layout. |

It's the first thing I bought after I got my truck. A must have.

Re: Help restoring bed on a shortbed/fleetside???
Well, maybe these will help even though I have modified all of my cross sills. The back one is cut, the front two stretched 4 inches wider.
One isn't shown in this picture, it is the cross sill that is thinner than all the rest and it goes ahead of where my fuel tank is. Last edited by lakeroadster; 01-29-2010 at 07:45 PM. |
