3rd Row Seat question??
Most of you guys and gals have seen my recent acquisition- the '69 burb. Well anyways my suburban didn't come with the 3rd row seat and I was wondering how I would go about mounting one back there. I heard that a blazer seat would work? How does the seat get anchored down, since the floor is all wood in the back? Does it take special mounting brackets? Last but not least I have access to a '73-'79???? blazer seat would this seat work? Any body have any pics of the factory 3rd row seat in there burbs? I know I asked too many questions but I would like for this thing to have ample seating for my family. Like always any feedback is appreciated

Re: 3rd Row Seat question??
Hello, yes there is a mounting bracket under the wood. Blazer seats work fine as #3 seats. The 3 seaters had a shorter second seat as well to allow passengers past the #2 seat (no passenger side armrest on #2, different front brackets than #3). As far as the 73-79 seat goes, the width should work but the brackets may take a little work (some of those folded flat, whick is cool option if you can find one). I have some pictures of factory literature on the 3 seat option. I'll see if I can dig them up and post them for you. I have a 3 seater at my shop. I'll see if I can get a picture of the floor bracket for you, also let me know if you end up needing seats or parts as I have 67/72 style available. Sharpie

Re: 3rd Row Seat question??
As a side note I don't have any literature on subs with buddy buckets, but I did own a 3 seat 68 that came with them (4A50HH BUCKET SEATS on the SPID label). Oh and 396 TH400 smog equipped as well. Sharpie

Awesome pictures!!! For those less fortunate, I wonder if it would be ok to scan a few of these complete manuals for ALL to see? i would love to have a copy of these for my digital library.

Re: 3rd Row Seat question??
Hi Matt, I'm not sure if there are copies of some of the awesome GM literature floating around this site or not. If they haven't been posted yet they would be a great addition. I believe Too Much Stuff has quite the collection of them as well. I'm guessing the copyright laws would allow it for "historical purposes"! Sharpie

Re: 3rd Row Seat question??
i like having the full width second row seat which is how my 72 burb was built and also my dad's 72 burb he had back in the 80's. he added a 71-72 blazer rear seat which IS essentially the same seat. it was all white vinyl instead of with the highlander/custom deluxe cloth panels (blue/black) but it had the matching scroll pattern. he attached it with piggy back bolts so he could remove it. we had to climb over the seat but we were kids and it was nice having more seating space for the older folks. the narrow second row seat makes me think of a minivan (yuck).
on my 72 i am going to try and adapt the next generation 3rd row seat that flips forward and removes. the arm rests are the same, just the supports are more streamlined. easy to paint the metal and change the upholstery to match the factory 72 stitching. only trouble would be cutting the brackets out of the floor of a donor burb and mounting them to the wood floor. i may try to go the same route on the second row seat also. the 72 burb doesn't have arm rests on the door so the seat won't hit it when you flip it down (unlike my dad's 84 and 87 burbs). i know it is possible to reach the release levers for both the upper and lower cushions without having to stand with the adjacent door open.....just the top part of the seat hits the arm rest. i want to keep my burb looking very stock and i love that vintage upholstery with the scroll pattern, but the 80's seating setup is very convenient, especially if you use your burb to haul cargo as well as people. |

Re: 3rd Row Seat question??
Awesome literature sharpie1972!!! This info gives me an idea on what to do. I did however replace my front bench seat with a set of dodge buddy buckets that I had laying around in my stash. I'll be sure to get some pics for everyone to see.

Re: 3rd Row Seat question??
Cool Sharpie, I work on computers for a living and could scan them and put them up if they are not out there. I would just need to have hard copy to do it. I have a real nice scanner that can scan very high resolution and can also make lower res for those with dialup if anyone wanted. Also, I have looked for such and have only found one of the booklets online and it was overseas.
