marker lights or no marker lights

I`m about to do a full restoration on my 68 short step and can`t decide on the side marker lights. I`m gonna have to replace all but one fender if I keep the lights. I like the look of both though. Going without markers gives it a smoother look, but keeping them kinda catch`s eyes. If I do keep them are there any aftermarket lights that look better than the stock 68+ lights. I was kinda thinking about L.E.D.s. I really need some help with this.

Re: marker lights or no marker lights

You might want to check your local laws first. I'd hate for you to get it painted and try to get it inspected only to find out that you need marker lights...

Re: marker lights or no marker lights

I think side markers are such a minor thing that they go unnoticed unless you`re focused on them like so many are.I like all pre-68 vehicles because of the lack of federal mandated features including side markers.By`69 car bodies were designed with these new mandated features in mind.In`68 they were just added on.The trucks remained until`72 without a body change. For me if it`s a`67 it`s cool w/o markers.I definitely wouldn`t add them, like the old boys did. But,I wouldn`t fill them on a`68 either.I don`t see them change the lines or even make a truck look smoother.I think the lights are attractive and fit well on the body. They look awesome lit at night, too.

Re: marker lights or no marker lights

The guy from the board who sells custom LEDS tail lights can make anything you want. Do a search for LED's in the parts for sale. He can custom anything you want. He was at the meet @ Norwood. Makes quality stuff and stands behind his work.

Re: marker lights or no marker lights

This is a tough one. I had them for a while, now I don't. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that I like my stuff smooth. Another thing to consider is Firebird marker lights. I've seen them on a boardmember's truck (70GMCer perhaps?) and they look real nice.

Re: marker lights or no marker lights

I`ve decided to just keep them. I don`t know as far as the law goes around here, their funny about stuff like that. I`ve been pulled over 5 or 6 times and searched for not having tag lights. They actually gave me tickets twice for it. When I went to court the judge told me that I didn`t havr to have them because they didn`t come out with them. The second ticket they gave me I tried telling them that the judge threw it out because he said I didn`t have to have them and they proeceeded to tell me I was lying. I went before the judge again and he threw it out again. But the cop wa in there this time(same cop on both tickets) and he told him that if he pulled me over again for this that he would be suspened. You should have seen the look that was on the cops face...priceless. Anyway I`m gonna check on some L.E.D.s

I have been looking at AVS`s LED marker lights and think thats what I`m gonna go wth. I can weld them in flush.I`m also thinking of doing the tail lights like this also.

Re: marker lights or no marker lights

If your going for a smooth custom truck, no markers. If you going for a resto look and especially if your running stock trim, the markers are a must.

Re: marker lights or no marker lights

I just bought a set of van marker lights. They fit the holes perfectly and are smooth with no raised edges like the stock 71's have.

Re: marker lights or no marker lights

For me I decided to keep mine just because I am restoring more to the original state other than a full blown custom. But next time it will be smooth without them.

Re: marker lights or no marker lights

My truck doesn`t have trim but i`m gonna keep the markers. I have the lenses out of a 69+, the ones that have the two crome trim bezels. I want to take two 4.5 inch LEDs and keep the stacked look like rob`s fender
