OldSub from Washington

I've put off being active here for years because someone else registered the name I use everywhere else. I've finally decided I should join the fun.

I have a bunch of projects that I'm not working on very hard. I'm currently off work on disability and while I can spend hours on the Internet I haven't been able to spend many hours in the shop.

I have three personal drivers these days.

A '55 1st GMC Suburban which is mostly stock powered by a GMC 270 and I've added front disk brakes, a 3.08 geared rear axle, Cragar mags and Honda Accord power leather buckets. It is a future project with lots of rust and hard earned patina.

A '91 K2500 that is dead stock and I've resisted thinking of it as a project. Its the six-lug version with a 350 and 700r4. Lately I've been considering removing the tired 350/700r4 and replacing them with a 454/TH400 combo I have setting in a wrecked truck. I currently use this truck to pull my trailer and other utility purposes.

No picture, nothing to see...

An '85 Corvette. TPI 350 with 4-speed. Since its not a truck I'll stop there.

My current 'active' project is a '54 GMC 1-ton 5-window. My target is a hard working truck to pull my trailer replacing the tired '91. I've replaced the Eaton rear with a 14-bolt FF with 3.42 gears and the front straight axle with the IFS from a '72 C20. I'm finishing the IFS install currently. For power I'm using a Cadillac 500 and a TH400. Tires will be Michelin 265/75-16s and I've yet to choose and buy wheels. The cab is the one in my avatar and I'll be modifying a utility bed hopefully making it look 50's for use on the back.

I have a '54 Chevy 3100 3-window body only setting close to a '87 S-10 4x4 frame. That project might be next on my list though my plans change pretty often and this is one I've thought about moving back. I think this was taken the day I brought it home and before I started taking it apart.

I have a '50 Chevy 5-window 1-ton that I am currently planning to drop on a 1/2-ton frame. Small block, automatic, power steering and brakes but staying with the stock suspension. This one is being planned around what my wife wants.

I have a '47 (Advance Design) COE that I plan to mount on a '72 C10 frame and make a custom bed for. Basically I want a COE hot rod and while it might be fun to build a COE hauler I don't see that approach being near as practical as the GMC 1-ton project.

I also have a '53 GMC 3-ton, a '54 GMC 1-ton with a Hydra-Matic, a '52 Chevy 2-ton and a '51 Chevy 1-1/2 ton plus parts of several others.

I have a major bias toward the curved glass GMC's over earlier trucks and Chevrolets. My pre-54 based project plans really all assume I don't find a '54-'55 1st GMC that is right to use instead.

So far as I've visited here I've been hanging in the '47 to '59 section which is where my real interest lies. I hope any of you who recognize me from other forums won't be too disappointed that I've decided to become active here too!
