67 3sp non-sync bellhousing HELP needed
When I started to plan to install my engine I noticed the bellhousing that came with the truck in a box was cracked. So I purchased a replacement on ebay. A 5505. I went to install it and noticed it was the 5 1/8 inch mount type. Searching threads I find I needed a 4 11/16 67 or later model. Would any know the model number of the bellhousing for a 3sp v8 4x4? Any help would be apprecated? Or a better direction would be to just go with an adapetr collar from: http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/adapters.htm Don Last edited by 67gmcstepside; 01-30-2010 at 02:40 PM. |

Re: 67 3sp non-sync bellhousing HELP needed
I cant help on the casting numbers....my bell is bolted under the truck(cold outside!lol) if you shoot for 64-67(truck), I-6(230/250/292) or v8 you will find the bell that you need. I think the older V8 bells will work back to 1960, but the older inlines(235/261/301) had a different block pattern. You can also take the front bearing retainer & the bell to a machine(job shop), & have a ring made to press over the OD of the retainer ,to properly fit the trans in the bell. Best of fun, crazyAL

Re: 67 3sp non-sync bellhousing HELP needed
The 68 up 4 speeds used the larger opening. I'm not sure about the 3 speed. It seems any truck bell housing 55-67 v-8 or 63-67 6 will fit. Some of the cars used a small;er flywheel & will not work. The early 60's had the clutch release lever opening on the right hand side so it will not work but those are rare.

Re: 67 3sp non-sync bellhousing HELP needed
Thanks guys. I did find a place that sells a ring that goes around the trans retaining bearing to fit the 5 1/8 bell. I would rather just get the right bell but I quess the adapter is the best bet at this time. Thanks for taking the time to assist!
