Bucket Seats?
Is it worth finding a rough set of 72 buckets, having them recovered and restoring the console or just throwing in a mid 90's set of bucket seats. I have been thinking about both, and just wondered if any of you have done something similar.

I bought the seat covers from GMCPauls (they're great!!). I don't recall the price exactly, but they were about $250 for the pair. The houndstooth covers come in several different color schemes. I used the Classic Industries CatEncyclopedia to pick the color I wanted. Brian |

OK, last question, i have a 69 cst/ 10, and it has a bench seat, i want to convert to buckets, but where would i look for the original seats that i could recover. Also, do you think they would come with brackets, or are they sold separate?

69-72 blazer buckets are what people usually use for this, I think. If you get the brackets that go with them, I think there's an adapter that GMCPauls sells for these to fit in a truck.
The brackets mostly go with the seats. Not always the case, though. Also, my blazer bench was pretty bastardized, but I BELIEVE that the brackets it used were the same as the drivers side bucket. If this is correct, then 2 sets of bench brackets would give you 2 buckets that were both adjustable. Someone else should probably step in and confirm this truck bucket question. Bucket seat primer
There were 2 styles of buckets available 67-72. One style, used from 67-68 are essentially a 40/20/40 combo bolted to a metal tubular frame. The center seat is a flipup/flipdown console/armrest affair. These are the hardest to locate but the easiest to install as they use the existing bench seat bracket mounting holes. They are on the left in the attached pic.
The other style, intoduced in 69, used 2 buckets and a center console. The correct center console has rectangular holes to stow the seat belt buckle where you normally would find cup holders. The driver side seat is adjustable, the passenger side seat is fixed in pickups. These same seats are used in Blazers but the passenger side bracket is designed to allow the seat to flip forward for access to rear seat. You need to drill holes in the floor for these brackets as there are not the same design as bench brackets and are not interchangeable. 2 vinyl patterns were used. In 69/70, a single scroll pattern was used. In 71/72 a double scroll was used. They could also be had with hounstooth inserts. These are the center and right buckets pictured. Brackets: The second pic shows the correct truck brackets. You should buy seatrs with brackets intact if at all possible as tracking down a correct set of brackets is a pain. The low back buckets were used in trucks and blazers 73 to mid 70's or so. These are nearly identical to 69-72 and when covered with period seat covers look almost indistiguishable from them. The brackets on 73-up seats are not compatible with 67-72 cabs however. The consoles used 73-up had cup holders in place of the rectangular holes. Otherwise the consoles are the same shape and size. A board member (Tom Hand) used 73-up seats and fashoned a system of brackets out of bench brackets to mount them. You can PM him for some more details, I'm sure. Have fun, try the parts board as a starter for locating some but they are pricey. expect to pay $300+ and then expect to have to completely recondition them.

Heres mine in a '67. May not be original to '72 but damn comfortable after I had them reupholstered. Wouldnt trade them for anything. Just my opinion.

Chip327, those look like the 67/68 style buckets and are correct. I agree, these are the most comfortable and functional setup made between 67-72.

That's my name for the Classic Industries truck catalog. It's about 700 pages long, in full color, and has pictures of pretty much every part. If you've never ordered from them, go to the classic industries website . I think you'll have to pay $5 or so for it, but it's well worth it. Brian |
