Re: 68/327 stepside

Nice start for sure. Keep us updated and we will keep you motivated. Whats the overall scheme of the truck going to be? Since your close ill mention that if your plans included a powder coated frame, I have on for sale in the parts section.

Re: 68/327 stepside

The plan is to build a fun to shift, dependable, and comfortable daily driver with a simple easy to repair paint job. I drive 50 miles a day to work most of which is 4 lane so a good highway gear is a must. This by no means is meant to be a show truck but I do want it structurally and mechanically sound. The truck came from the factory with an inline 6/3 speed, 4:11 posi rear, exterior paint, and a heater. It currently has a smokey 327 with a 350 turbo automatic connected poorly to the column manual shifter. I love the existing patina/color.

Planned upgrades:

Power steering
Power brakes
Air
Floor mounted 5 or 6 speed
Later model bench
5 lug spindles
front disc brakes

Parts already collected:

Very nice original hood
chrome front bumper ( so so condition )
72 frame
disc spindles
5 lug chevy aluminum 8 hole rims ( i'm not crazy about these)
open 3:73 5 lug rear axle ( would work in a pinch )

Re: 68/327 stepside

Sounds like you are well on your way to a fun dependable gear snatcher I hear ya on the 5 or 6 speed manual, I just picked up a T56 myself to go byhind my 6.0. Still gathering all of my parts for the swap. I would agree with the patina paint that is on the truck, looks bada**. Good luck with everything, and we will be watching !!!

Re: 68/327 stepside

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I know I'll need plenty of encouragement and technical help so I'll do my best to make steady progress with plenty of pictures.
