Re: ebay find

$500 no reserve day and a half left on auction no bids. Looks like a solid truck but no interior pictures.

Re: ebay find

Some of the description is wrong and maybe a little disturbing.

It has 8-lug wheels on the front and the serial starts 25. Both of those mean its a 1-ton not a 1-1/2 ton as stated in the description. The 8800 GVWR listed at the bottom is consistent with a 1-ton.

However the serial is 25322Cxxxx. 253 means 1-ton with 137 inch wheel base. That's fine.

But 22 means the motor is a 228 and in '54 GMC was installing 248s in 1-ton trucks. The 228 was not available.

C means it was built in California at the plant in Oakland. That's okay.

However, all 1954 and early 1955 GMC trucks have a 'Z' in the serial number after the plant code and I don't see that in this serial number.

The grill with the mustaches is right for a '54, but the split windshield is not.

I ran the serial number through an online program and this is what I got:

Year 1953
Series 250
Nominal Rating 1-ton
Original Motor 228
Wheelbase 137
Plant Oakland
Production 3016

That truck is being represented as a '54 but is probably a '53 with a '54 front clip.
