Questions for putting in a CD head unit

The old tape deck quit playing tapes this week, and considering it quits putting out sound to the driver side speaker everytime I hit a bump, it's going. I want to install a new CD head unit. I realize I need to cut the dash, but my friend told me I'd also need an antenna adapter..... My truck is an '87 and I only found ones for an '88 and up GM product. Any tips for those who have upgraded?

you don't need an antenna adapter...you can use your factory antenna cable...it would help greatly to get a 1 foot antenna extension...the stock antenna is just long enough to get in the radio if you squeeze and scratch your arm all to hell up under the dash...
