electric choke hookup?
I just put a new Edelbrock 1406 carb on the ol'girl last night but ran out of time to get the ellectric choke hooked up. Question is this. There is a purple wire (original harness) that comes up the back that I think was the positive for the original carb. Am I right? If not, what is the suggested wire for hooking the "key on" hot wire of the choke setup? thanks, Cnut

Re: electric choke hookup?
I’m not sure if it is but that would explain why I have a purple wire going to nowhere! I have seriously always wondered about that! But you can run it to any 12v ignition source; I ran mine to the hot at the alternator as some people had advised me. Was easier than running it to the fuse box where I am out of 12v ing sources.

Re: electric choke hookup?
The purple wire in your engine harness is the starter wire. You can run a wire from ignition unfused inside your fuse panel to get 12 volts to the electric choke. WES

Re: electric choke hookup?
When I put my 1406 on I found a wire on the passenger side of the engine that already had 12 volts with the key on. I think its intended use was for that thermal-spark-emmissions-thingy that was long gone when I got my truck.

Re: electric choke hookup?
I ran mine to the power supply going to my TH400 kickdown switch.

Re: electric choke hookup?
I ran a manual choke and it was the best thing I could have done! I got tired of the electric choke never being adjusted right. Maybe I'm just a goof and didn't know what I was doing, but manual just worked a lot better for me. Another good reason to run a good ol' Holley!

Re: electric choke hookup?
I dont know if its right or not but it worked for me. I hooked mine on my Mustang to the positive side of the coil. Guess it won't work if you have HEI but that is what i plan on doing when i hook my 1406 up when the time comes.

Re: electric choke hookup?
thats what i did, it seemed like the easiest and the cleanest. just run a ground to one of the screws on the electric choke housing and you're good. and i agree with 69gmclonghorn, i had to screw with mine for almost a half hour one day to get it to kick down right and not come back on.
