2005-2007 Silverados - what problems to look for?
I'm looking to purchase a 2005-2007 Silverado 1500.
What should I look for when inspecting? I read the auto transmission have issues. How common is it? Thanks

Re: 2005-2007 Silverados - what problems to look for?
I think their good trucks, i dont own one but do a lot of work on them. 4L60E trasmissions dont have any more problems than 700R4s, They dont like abuse like towing heavy, constant full throttle 3-4 downshifts & upshifts, LOW FLUID LEVEL is the number one killer of a 700R4,4L60,4L60E. Check the fluid level & smell the transmission fluid if it smells burnt & has black clutch material in the fluid you know the transmission is on its last leg. Make sure to put a full drive cycle on the truck (at least 20 miles) to make sure the engine runs good and the transmission shifts good, No check engine light, wheel bearing noise, rear axle noise, run the A/C & heat.

Great trucks. I have a 06. I am a GM auto tech and I saw most of the problems from the 03 change basically disappear around 05 06.

I've just purchased an 05 and don't have any problems yet. I read a lot on the web about 04 and 05 having bad guage problems and they have to rebuilt/replaced. knock on wood I haven't had any issues with mine.

I haven't herd about any problems with the 4L60E transmissions. Try to find a truck that looks like it has been well maintained. Ask to look at any records if available. Try to find a one owner "grandma/grandpa" truck.
