Starting my 67 ShortWide Build

I have been wanting to get to this build for sometime now but have been spending a lot of time on my Sons 64 ShortWide (Its Finished). Here are a few pictures of the Moss Covered 67 that will hopefully be glossy black in about 3 months. It has it's original large journal 327 that is going to a local machine shop and gone through from top to bottom. Its backed by the Original TH400 and 4:11/1 ratio in the backend. As of now I have a 67 Short Step bed including all the Bed Rails and Angles, new front end for the bed and a Red Oak bed kit with all new hardware and also the rear cross brace that goes below the tail gate. This in itself is making it hard to want to switch to a short wide but I like the Shortwides better. Hopefully I can find someone who might want to trade a shortstep for a shortwide bed. The dash is unmolested and all there. The only major rust in this truck is the inner fender under the Battery Tray and the Tail Gate. The rest is really strait with no major bodywork to do. Here are a few pictures of the Moss Covered Weed patch find.

Thanks, I was talking with my Wife and I told her I probably could have bought all the trucks I wanted complete for the cost of this shop, but then I wouldn't be able to have all the fun putting them together with my Sons. Not to mention all that I have tought my Sons in working on these old trucks. To date My Sons and I have restored a 1963 Chevy Long Fleet, 1985 Toyota Ext Cab 4x4, 1965 F100 Custom Cab Styleside Shortbed PU (I know its a Ford but $200 for a fully functional Truck that needed a paint job was to cheap to pass up), 1964 Chevy ShortWide PU. Once We are done with the 67 and 69 Chevys I will finally go to work on my 1956 Chevy Bigwindow Shortstep which is my Truck. I hope the Boys will help me Restore mine.

Here are a few pictures and if you want to see the whole project go to the thread (My Sons 64 Shortwide) in the 60-66 section. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Yes, I actually did it myself with a product called Hippo Liner. It was really easy to do and it covers a multitude of sins. Not that there were many. This is actually my Sons truck and he probably did about 60 percent of the total resto including bodywork and paint. We have been driving it when we can and trying to work out any bugs that need working out. Its a really nice driver, I took the 4:11/1 out of the back and installed a 3:08/1 and it is a lot more driveable now. Its got a 69 327 and a TH400 in it so I wanted to slow it down a bit on the bottom end being that my 19 year old Son will be driving it. So now he will be able to get the High Speed Tickets.

You have to get the Tintable kit and then order a pint of binderless base coat paint to mix with the Liner Kit. Its really easy and it looks like a million bucks when its done. When you buy the kit it should come with a gun so make sure to ask that question before you get home and find out it doesn't. I got home and luckily the guy that owns the paint store is a friend of mine and he had one at his house that I borrowed. I have used both the Raptor Kit and the Hippo Kit and I like the Hippo Kit for the Tintable liner and the Raptor kit for the black application. I will attach a picture of a Ford that I sprayed a liner in. Sorry for putting a Ford Pic on the Chevy Website.

Re: Starting my 67 ShortWide Build

Started Tearing the front of the truck apart today and you have to love those captive nuts that break in the worst places. Here are a few pics of our forward progress.

I think I am going to go buy a case of Oven Cleaner and spray this truck from top to bottom with it. What a grease ball.

Talking Re: Starting my 67 ShortWide Build

I think you will be more happy going with a short wide bed on the 67 as you already said , I think shiny black look's good on a short wide bed 67
BUT THEN I GUESS I WOULD THINK THAT

I am probably going to paint my 67 Black. I am even considering a two tone paint job but Not sure yet. Thats a great looking truck just hope mine turns out as nice. I will say one thing, trying to find a decent shortwide bed is becoming hard to do. I would rather not have to buy a whole truck to get one but if it comes to that I will.

Re: Starting my 67 ShortWide Build

Since last post my Son and I have Removed the entire front end off the truck, the engine and transmission removed and the interior taken out. We are about to pull the cab off the frame and start doing the Major Metal Work like cab corners and outer Rockers. We are hoping to have it placed on the shortwide frame by the end of next week. I am going to have the 67-327 Rebuilt top to bottom by a local guy and am doing some research on what Cam I want to use in this engine to give it a few more ponies under the hood. I plan on bolting it to a 200R4 with a 3.73/1 gear in the back. I am going to post a few pictures of my tail gate, I think I need to replace it but if I get in a pinch there is enough of it left to put CHEVY on the back. I have been thinking about painting it Black and Silver with a complimentary Strip between the two colors but Im not sure what that is going to be yet. Wouldn't mind some suggestions, or even pictures of Two Tone 67 Shortwides. Here are a few pictures of the tailgate.
