Re: Newbie with 72 Blazer
Length 2x4's = 76" (need 4) Width 2x4's = 53" (need 7) Diagonal cut 2x4's to mount the casters to go under the corner 4x4's 4x4 Risers to meet bed floor height = 11.5" (the 2x4 goes on top for 13" of height) Total height of 4x4's - mine are 20" (for the short ones) and the body was less than an inch away from clearing my 6'10" garage door opening. There is no reason it can't be shorter so keep that in mind. The little "pads" that are taller than the frame sit on the torsion boxes. The rear most "coffee holder pad" sits under a bed floor support between the wheel wells. The middle "pads" actually hang over the edge of the 2x4 by 1.5" on each side to better contact the torsion box. A single 2x4 at 55" would work the same I assume. In the pic you can see the front "pads" that the rocker boxes would sit on - I ended up removing those and keeping the middle and coffee pad and now the body sits on all 6 points. I also added metal L brackets but not sure they help any - it's a very solid structure with just nails. If any of this is unclear please let me know. |

Re: Newbie with 72 Blazer
So your front, center 4x4's are 20" and your rears are 31.5" tall, correct? And what do you mean when you say,
"In the pic you can see the front "pads" that the rocker boxes would sit on - I ended up removing those and keeping the middle and coffee pad and now the body sits on all 6 points." Did you take the 2x4 blocks out of just the front, or front and center? |

Re: Newbie with 72 Blazer
So how does the front and center mount support the rocker box straight and level if it is dropping 1.5"? Or am I just picturing this wrong? The center and the front hit the rocker box correct? Where does the 1.5" difference in height go?

Re: Newbie with 72 Blazer
Sorry for all the questions but I had built a stand like yours for my tub once and had trashed it. Now I need to build another one to pull the tub back off but don't remember what the hell I did the first time. I also want to build something lower and portable like yours.

In terms of the height of the 4x4's - whatever you make the front and middle ones, make the rear ones 11.5" taller. In my dolly the 4 short 4x4's are 20". The taller, rear most 4x4's are 31.5. When you account for the "pads" the rear height is 33", the middle is 21.5", the front is 20". None of my measurements account for the caster height or the diagonal caster 2x4 mounts at each corner as they are not critical to dolly to body fitment. PS - that's a massive structure you built there! |

Re: Newbie with 72 Blazer
Yeah, I built that so I could roll the frame in and out from under it. It is wide and tall just so it didn't take up two parking spots in the garage.
