Finally, the front end on!!!

I have finally turned the corner and starting the downhill slide! I really feel now the Blazer project I have been working on for 4 years is going to get finished soon! Today, with the help of my mentor body man, we put on the front end in a meer 4 hours. Here is the results... Waiting for seats and a little touch up work but I can drive it down the road> Still few mechanical tweaks but I am PUMPED!

Man, that body work looks sweet! Gotta love the 70 grille with the black headlight bezels! No bowtie for the hood? Very, very nice!

hmmm black headlight bezels...I wonder how that would look on a 71-72 grill setup. I like.

The hood is not the original, the original had 30-40 hail pecks in it and I thought this would be a better investment of effort to get a strait hood. The one I found was a 1971 hood so I will eventually drill the holes and install the hood emblem. The headlite bezels are actually the original ones, sandblasted and then powdercoated satin black for the totally factory look. I am going for a factory look but the blazer had the full hubcaps of which I was not huge fan, so I am going to install some 16.5 X 8.25 6 lug steel wheels that I got some time ago after painting them brilliant white or powdercoating them like I did the bumpers. The stance you see is probably what I will have left at end of build, totally what I had when I began. Sweet thing about this blazer is it was totally unmolested, 56K mile rig when I got it, it was a time capsule and I have tried to refurbish it back to factory. The carb was changed, breather, chrome valve covers(which may get changed later back to the originals), HEI dizzy, headers and dual exhaust, so it is a touch modified but those were for better service than the old stuff.

Re: Finally, the front end on!!!

What kind of wheel covers did it have, were they the chrome dogdish ones or the full wheel covers? I'm wondering just cuz you have white ones on the rear and I was wondering if you had white ones for the front cuz I didn't know they came like that.

It looks awesome btw!

It had the big full cover chrome caps from the factry and they were in good shape. the white cap you see in the pics was a couple I threw on it some time back and there they have stayed... Those are the original wheels, 15 X7, which I will not be using per my prior post. I even have the original from the factory spare tire, in pretty fair shape with the nubs still on the driving surface, I will probably put it back in place for completeness.

I have the original ones and they were slightly different from the ones you are sending, they are flat without the ribs that yours have. The ones I have have a split down one of them and when I crank them down, they split more so I will probably replace mine with yours....thanks!

Re: Finally, the front end on!!!

I bow to thee.....

man, that sure does look different then when I saw her last summer. you've taken your time and done it right, and it really does show. when are you getting the 16.5 x 8.25's on? that will DEFINITELY be a attitude adjustment over the 15 x 6.5's!

she's definitely a beauty!!! congrats, big brother, you deserve it.

Re: Finally, the front end on!!!

I have watched you MILK this little gravy job from time to time, and think you have done a great job! I will share with you that there might be some post- par tum anxiety. I have been where you are now, and was just about to pee in my pants to go for a ride! Here is my nickle's worth.

I drove my Chevelle a mile at a time when I was where you are, and would come home and address the noise I heard, or check for leaks, a rattle etc. This went on for some endless amount of time ( as per my wife ) and THEN one day I drove the car almost 6 miles!!!

It looks like you have done a great job, and you should be proud of your hard work and money spent.

Do not be like me and be afraid to drive the Blazer anywhere you want!!

Came from Ulysses, Kansas in extreme southwest part of the state. Bought new there and never left until I hauled it to Southeast Missouri.

Southwest Kansas!?! They still wear six-shooters and ride horses into town in them parts! I had some relitives that lived in Liberal, KS, SW bottom corner. I use to drive out there with a trailer and fill it up with all kinds of 67-72 parts. Really nice rust free sheet metal. Great score on your Blazer and looks great.

I'm changing my '72 Blazer to a '69-'70 grill/look. Is the 350 emblem under the K5 emblem correct? And the 4x4 emblem? I just want to ensure my badges are inline with the years, Thanks, DP

I was unsure of this and refered to my pictures prior to disassembly and that is the way they were.
